Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Southampton youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain amid reports that discussions with Arsenal have stalled.

The Gunners' negotiations faltered in January over Saints' demands for a 40 per cent sell-on clause. And renewed attempts to bring the youngster to the Emirates have again hit a stumbling block.

This time the fee is the problem with Southampton demanding £12 million and Arsenal only willing to spend £10 million, Givemefootball reports.

Kenny Dalglish could take advantage of the deadlock with his own move for the 17-year-old starlet.

The player's dad, former England international Mark Chamberlain, has always maintained that a move to the Gunners is the preferred option for his son.

But reports that Dalglish will set about convincing father and so that Oxlade-Chamberlain belongs in Anfield's new crop of young British talent have seen the odds on him joining Liverpool drop to 13/8.

Manchester United are also rumoured to be interested in the midfielder.

They can all argue amongst themselves.
But when they've finished doing that, if they have anything worth while to say, they can fax Nicola. He'll then either get back to them or.........not bother.

Shouldn't the name read 'rumours team' instead of 'news team'. God knows how he's a Southampton player still, apparently he's already signed for Arsenal and Manchester United!

40% Sell on clause seems unlikely. No one would go for that. The 20% that we owe Bournemouth for Lallana means that his price is pushed up. If it's 40%, no player would be worth selling. Think NC is just saying go away!

I think its fair enough, if they are getting a player who might end up being worth £30 million, then they are getting a bargain at £12 million. We just want a share in his potential. If Arsenal don't like it then they should start producing their own young players.

I think if you look carefully at all these "Chamberlain to go to (fill in any of the top 4 teams)" reports, the journalist who wrote all of them is a chap by the name of "Phil Space".

Sport writers have to eat as well, you know!

The more of these rumours come up, the more certain I am that Alex will stay this season. And if reports are true that Nic is gunning for a 40% sell on clause, it's a win-win.

Not that I believe any of these bullshit rumours after they said we had sold him to Arsenal in January and that he would finalise the move in the summer after helping us gain promotion.

Don't believe it until it's on the OS! <ok><diva>

Does get a tad boring i agree. However this is the boring season anyway.

At least we can now dream about the fixtures that lie ahead of us.

The odds of him staying are pretty remote with the bookies. I might put a few quid on him staying. It's certainly not unbelievable and I'd stand to win a fair bit!

According to David Ornstein from the BBC, no one has made a bid or even enquired about Chambo!
