    I take Father Dougal's viewpoint.

"Do you ever have a problem with your faith, Father Dougal?". "You know the bit where Jesus is born of a virgin without sex, grows up and performs loads of miracles, dies on the cross, goes up to heaven and then comes back down again as good as new?". "Yes, Father". "Well that's the bit I have a problem with".

    I didn't write the script <laugh>

There is 'faith' which is simply a conviction or, as I said before, belief without evidence to support it and there is 'religious faith', sometimes capitalized to Faith, which is merely faith attached to a particular religion -- e.g. the religious faithful.

Defining religion is very tricky. How about: It's a shared belief in a higher power associated with a very complicated system of philosophical pronouncements or rules for behaviour. (?).

More interesting, perhaps, is what is the difference between a religion and a cult? Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons and, in its early days, Christianity (and Islam) have all been referred to a cults. Is a religion just a older, richer and somewhat modified cult? Interesting question or somewhat unfair?

The condescension here is unbelievable. How dare people equate our Lord with a knave and a rapist!

The burden of proof of any theory always lies with the person who proposes the theory.
I said on the other thread- how can you prove the non-existence of something that doesn't exist?
The scientific method is to try to explain all the things that were previously ascribed to God in other, more provable terms, thereby eliminating the need for God.
It's impossible to prove that God doesn't exist.

That's what I've been banging on about, there is no proof either way so to dismiss someone for their belief is ignorant and arrogant. This theory also works both ways we've all come accross public preachers telling us all to repent our sins.

We live in a world where everyone wants to tell us they are right.

Can we all agree that it's impossible to prove that God doesn't exist, and that it's impossible to prove that He exists

...cause the endless dialicticalism of that particular argument is getting a bit long and smelly like that fantasy character's beard.

We should stick to football. Faith must be the only topic that is more controversial than it.

Nope. To agree would be the end of us, we'd have to admit that society is no longer valid and all start living in caves again and I for one like xbox too much for that.

Do you think that the proven Jesus miracles are proof that God exists?

Our caves are very modern and not at all what you may think, I was very glad of the hot running water when I recently visited Wigan though.

Like in a bubble? Or like a ping pong ball? You must have some kind of semi-stable belief in how existence is run

No, like I was saying none of us could possibly comprehend God. The best any beliver could do is remove as much doubt from his mind as possible and have faith that God exists. I don't follow any religon I just have faith that there is something more but I have no way to prove it.

I used to say i'm 'agnostic', but then smb challenged my courage in that, and since then i say 'atheist'. You, on the other hand branch off 'agnostic' onto 'believer in a supreme power'. Agnostic means I don't know, I've no idea or faith.

    Option 1 or 3, gonz?

To be Agnostic is to be sceptical, to not know one way or the other but to not rule it out altogether, which is what luv has said.

Luv said that he "has faith that there is smth more". That is not 'agnostic' - that is a believer of some sort. Agnostic is fence-sitting, or not caring about the subject enough to develop a feeling, idea or belief.

Fairy Liquid, serious flaunting of the trades description act if you ask me!
"Hands that do dishes can feel soft as your face, with mild green Fairy Liquid."
My arse, I've been doing the lions share of washing up of late, wife's away attending her sisters marriage (I know how the **** did I get out of that...), my hands are shot to pieces.
Some seriously rough ****s of late, even with lubricant!
