Over the last 10 seasons, the 3rd place team in the Championship has averaged an 80.5 points haul at the end of the season. The highest points tally over that period were 86 points by West Ham in 2011/2012 and 85, by Ipswich in 2004/2005. The lowest points for 3rd place over that period was 75 in 2005/2006. On that basis, 5 more wins will be enough to clinch promotion, or will it?
Lets say yes, but nothings guaranteed. We should be aiming for the highest 2nd place finish, West Bromwich Albion 91 2009-2010, so i think we need 7 more If Derby and Forest hadn't caught up though, i thought us, Burnley and QPR were all going to finish on over 90! EDIT: Also if we win the league, we will equal the record number of football league 2nd tier wins (7) with Man City. EDIT EDIT: lol also 2nd in the all time table! http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/all-time-table/full. Credit to Barnsley for staying in this league for over 3000 games!
Here's some stats that was on Twitter yesterday Leaders after 32 games 07/08 Watford 58 08/09 Wolves 63 09/10 Newcastle 66 10/11 QPR 61 11/12 West Ham 61 12/13 Cardiff 67 13/14 #lcfc 71 After 32 game during our League 1 season in 2008/09 we had 70 points #lcfc After 32 games in 2002/03 Portsmouth had 67 points and #lcfc had 65
Surprised Cardiff had more points than the rest, they never felt that out of reach until we went on our losing streak. Also shows we should still be cautious though - West Ham in 2012 ended up in the play-offs!
Points from last 14 games last season Cardiff 20 (W4 D8 L2) Total 87 Hull 20 (W6 D2 L6) Total 79 Watf'd 21 (W6 D3 L5) Total 77 B&HA 26 (W7 D5 L2) Total 75 Palace 17 (W4 D5 L5) Total 72 Leics 14 (W3 D5 L6) Total 68 I'm genuinely surprised how few wins & points, Brighton aside that teams achieved. Only B&HA and Watford got half or over of the 42 on offer. Cardiff had won 9 of their previous 14, that dropped to 4 in the last 14. Looking at our fixtures and considering our form you'd think we'd be able to manage above that but I imagine Cardiff thought the same. Just goes to show how twitchy & unpredictable the end of the season gets and why I'm still nervous
That shows how lucky we got last season. Despite our slump no one was a million miles better then other then Brighton
If we had the league title sewn up with..say..5 games to go, do you think Nige would start tinkering with the team, giving fringe players more games? I don't mean daft changes, but the likes of King, Wood and Schlupp more games. Or do you reckon he will keep pushing to get as many points as possible with the best 11 he has?
Yes, but I think he'll want to get the best points tally we can. I'd love us to beat Reading's or Newcastle's totals.
More importantly, it will give him a head start (on the other two teams to get promoted) on planning for next season - IF WE GET THERE!!
I'd hope not, maybe bring in a couple to give the regulars more of a break, but not a different team entirely. Didn't help Malky/Cardiff last season
Form of Drinkwater and James is keeping him out Other then being more of a goalscoring threat I think both of them are better all round midfielders then King
Drinkwater and James both have a goal in them too. Remember when we had Wellens and Oakley in midfield and they didn't score a goal between them for a whole season?
I think the whole team has goals in it Out of all the players that have played a decent amount of time Wasilewski is the only one who hasnt scored yet
