If we had been allowed to commence construction in 2009/10 then we would be in a new stadium last/ this year. This would've brought in new people to see what the ground was like and possibly, like Brighton full capacities of hopefully, cheerful crowds. Would the players have risen to the crowds/atmosphere? Would the new stadium/atmosphere attract better players and managers? Would the prospect of a new home give extra fight to the players in previous seasons? Would the better crowd/atmosphere have intimidated opponents? I guess we'll never know.
We would have wasted even more money as we cannot fill AG now, nor in fact did we when we were in the championship. No good having a top new 30,000 capacity stadium if your team only average around the 17-18000 mark when they are doing well. The whole Ashton Vale saga has been the undoing of SL, and so much of his focus has been on this that I feel he has taken his eye of the ball at the club itself, and boy have we suffered for it. IF and right now it is a fing big IF, we can get back to the Championship and hold our own, only then should we revisit, the huge white elephant that has been a new stadium.
A 30,000 capacity stadium in Division 4 would have looked just slightly out of place ! Darlington anyone ?
Thankfully it was never built and probably never will. Our club is totally broken and the last thing we need is a new stadium, but rather a new team like we have been promised for years. SAD!
Football is full of "what if's", but we do seem to have more than our fair share. Remember we have to go through the bad times to appreciate the good
