It's difficult when it's a one off game like the cup.partnerships make all the difference.i thought he did ok. Brighton were a decent hard working team. My mom for what it's worth was matey friatt. Never stopped all the game . enjoyed my visit to the east stand.did i bring all my West stand carpet slipper fans with me cos the support wasn't brilliant.only my stepson and a few others bearing any voice
That might be your opinion, but it is a very poor one. The way he was played and the way others played around him prevented him from playing as an out-and-out striker, which was Fryatts clear orders. Sagbo played some excellent hold- up play and managed to turn a few to through-ball - this was against a defence we had experienced as being a tad tasty. I think Steve Bruce would have been happier with what he got from Sagbo than he would have been from two and three-touch Fryatt.
Shoved out wide wasn't he. I thought he put in a shift and linked up well with Aluko on occasion. He's definitely a player better suited to playing through the middle, so he did ok for me working his bollocks off on the left.
Did okay in my book. Didn't look totally comfortable out wide, Bruce kept screaming at him to give more width.
I thought he did very well, particularly at the end in retaining possession. Some people were praising Quinn but I thought he made some very silly passes in the last 5 mins, Sagbo did the opposite.
In reality he is 4th or 5th choice now. I think he might be moved on in the summer. Sadly with our January buys we have outgrown his ability.
Listening to Steve Bruce on the way in to the game he mentioned that, when they'd watched Sagbo playing in France, he'd been played out wide on the left. Earlier this season he's also looked useful in spells where he ended up out wide on the left - however, he did look out of sorts in that position last night and it wasn't until Aluko went off and he came back into the middle that Sagbo perked up a bit. At the same time, Aluko doesn't have the same physical presence when asked to lead the line, he's much more effective playing behind a front man. Perhaps if they'd swapped places both would have had more of an impact on the game.
I think he did ok, physical and mobile and he does carry a goal threat. Certainly not what the OP is intimating.
Fantastic at holding the ball up and close control, gone off the boil in recent weeks but hasn't been playing consistently to be fair to him. I think he's a big player for us, he'd be great to bring on when we're holding on to a lead and under the cosh, to just take some pressure off the defence.
That is a ridiculous assumption, he was stuck out wide, and in the majority of the games before Long and Jelly joined he performed well, as on many occasions he was a loan striker, and did a good job.
And so he probably should be at the price we paid for him. It wasnt long ago we had a thread on here with people worrying about his minimum pure clause.
I find him more effective through the middle where he can use his pace and strength to hold the ball up for our attacking players to run on and beyond - like him setting up Koren against Fulham and Huddlestone's jog for the goal in the same game. When he plays central he tends to make those runs out wide which means he's not one to stay around the box but that does pull defenders around and leave space for others to get there. I wouldn't say he did badly last night but not sure the wider role suits him as well. I can understand it though, as Fryatt was always going to play and Bruce clearly wanted to bolster midfield a little as we didn't control things in the first game.
Your mom was Matey Friatt!! That's a bloody coincidence. Did she change her name when we bought Matty? Also what was she continually doing throughout the game?
