A blast from the past I came across, from the days when football was played by real men, not like todays bunch of pansies. Not seen this before, but it shows the Mighty Wyn at his best. His smile at the end says it all. Personally, I can't see what he does wrong, and it's purely by co-incidence that the keeper is a pussy that went by the name of Montgomerie. We could do with a little bit of aggression like this next time out.
Didn't have a lot of meat on him but what he had, he used well. "Come on without," "Come on within. You've not seen nothing like the mighty Wyn."
my first goal seen at St. James' was a Wyn Davies header found this little snippet "Former Newcastle United goalscoring hero Wyn Davies was found in a 'where are they now' video working the night shift in a bakery. 'You can tell the fans I'm making lots of dough now,' he chuckled." nowt wrong with the tackle, he was just standing his ground
I saw him on many an occasion. A great header of the ball. Think I remember seeing at Norwich when Ron Davies was their centre forward.
Met him a few times a dead quiet canny bloke. Ron Davies was a good header of the ball as well just died recently. Wyn played for Man U Man city and Bolton.
Quality challenge. It was a proper game back then. It's also made me realise that Shola isn't useless, he's just in the wrong era. His clumsy mis-timed challenges would have been highly respected in those days and he'd have been a crowd favourite. Poor Shola, so slow he even missed his chance of playing in a time that would have suited his game.
Met him a few times myself, always really well dressed and a perfect gentleman. Not a stuck up prima donna like some of them were. Frank Clark was probably the worst.
Players like Dave McKay, Ron " Chopper " Harris, Norman Hunter and Tommy Smith would be sent off every week in today's pussy games. Can you imagine Suarez up against any of them, I can't, he'd run a mile to get away from them.
All hard, but basically fair players. They didn't try to hide what they were doing, just got on with it.
That was my first ever game. My red and white friends grandfather took us. I was 10 and just watched in horror at the violence in the fulwell end. That will stay with me forever.
