I don't go on some fanciful ideal of world history. You should perhaps do a little study into many parts of Africa which "benefitted" from Western Colonisation as you put it. I'd suggest you start with what used to be called the Belgian Congo.
You spread the cursed relgion of Christianity worldwide and the strife that that brings. You built railways to export the good you were mining from these nations (alot of peole died building these). Any science or technology used was used to further the exploitation of the land or people of that land. Only recently have they turned the infrastructure left for their own benefit.
We had more colonies than any other country because quite simply we were better at it than anybody else and thank **** we were.
All of these sciences, technologies, medecines could also have been spread by means of free trade, why did it have to be conquer and exploitation?
Im not disputing the military strength, but Im wondering how you justify the widespread colonialisation. Why do you still feel you had the right?
No it isnt, do yo know what capitalism is? I have actually touched on this when mentioning the fact that technology, science could have been exported through trade, that would have been a capitalist method. It think the term you were looking for is Imperialism
Every **** was doing it at the time, we were just better at it than everybody else. At least now, countries follow British law as opposed to French, apart from Louisiana obviously.(Yes I know Louisiana is a state and not a country, but my point is, look at the nick of the place because of it)
You can go back as far as you want but you claimed that "All of these places ended up better off as a direct result of Western Colonisation." Simply not true. ps Watching Civilization: Is the West History? on channel 4 does not count as study.
Maybe so but does that mean that you still had the right to do it? your not in some imperialist competition now so why are people still of the opinion that they have the right to claim sovereignty over the place
well most of the empire is no more, just islands here and there in the carribean etc. you competed to prosper, not to survive. Big difference Edit: remember lots of people giving off about giving up somewhere that was rightfully Britain's coming up to the hand over of Hong Kong by Patten
Well there was unbelieveable bloodshed and strife in India due to the nature of the British pull out etc. sectarian divides that exist to this day, the creation of east (now Bangladesh) and west pakistan
