There seems to have been a lot of debate in this area and it got me wondering which winger fans would rather have in the team?
On one of Nani's good days, Nani. On one of Nani's bad days, Valencia. If they are both having a good day, Nani. If they are both having a bad day, Valencia. Really depends on what Nani turns up because Valencia's "poles" are much closer together than Nani's.
for me nani everytime. I think valencia is a brilliant player, but his weaknesses tend to get overlooked or defended whereas nani gets over scrutinised In fact it would be interesting to see which of the two statistically kick the ball out for a goal kick more when crossing. For me valencia crosses to nobody or into touch a lot nani holds on for a little too long and often tries to be too precise
A decent critique, Valencia is a 7-8/10 player every game, Nani fluctuates between 3-10/10, so do you prefer an occasional match winner who's also utter ****e sometimes, or someone who gives his all every game even if he'll hardly ever win you a match?
I disagree nani's performances are a lot beter than 3/10. If you look at stats he is consistently in the top 3 in terms of player of the match But even if it were true you could say the same about rooney over the last 2 seasons. He is average or awful in games but then will score and all is forgiven For nani he can score a brilliant goal and people will be like 'good goal but did you see that cross?' how many players get every touch right?
Nani has never been a 3/10 player. Not once. Valencia however has had a big fat 0/10 in his United career. In another thread I showed some interesting stats for Nani. They along with the vast majority of last season show he is very very consistent. In more than half our games hes one of the best 3 players on the pitch.
When Nani matures his consistency will come and he will be dazzlingly brilliant most of the time, his technique and guile is top drawer when he is on his game. Valencia is a very good player who has found his consistency, he uses his pace and strength brilliantly and works his nuts off, there is no way I would sell him but he will never be at Nani`s top level.
I think Nani plays better as a wide forward in a 433/451 formation when he's allowed more freedom to come inside, but I think Valencia is more effective as an out and out winger in a 442, I also think Rooney seems to link up much better with Valencia than Nani, maybe because Valencia is more willing to play the early pass and work the touchline spreading the defense where as Nani often does that extra twist and turn then runs inside making the edge of the box a very crowded place.
ide take valencia every day of the week. nani can be utterly appalling,so bad against blackpool at old trafford it was almost unbelievable.
For the record, I think there should be a "Both" option on this poll as I'd rather we kept both players and they are both important to United, albeit in different ways.
i thought about it, then thought it would defeat the point. So i stuck in a who cares, they both play for us option
Yeah I thought that might have been the reason for omitting the "Both" option. Fair enough. Makes for a better debate
All I can say is we are man utd. The safe option shouldnt be an option and Valencia is the safe option. Man I sound like I hate him, I dont, hes ****ing class but hes no Nani now is he.
it's far to easy to click on both when the pressure's on, and i'm actually interested in the results tbf.
valencia has been like that one or two games his entire utd career. nani is like that much more often.this was his first very good season and he was still cack in about 7 or 8 games.
Valencia is a good player, does the simple things well but that won't win you finals. He is a very important player in our squad though and can improve but his height of improvement is not the same as Nani's. Nani is a very good talent, he had a very good season. Nani is more creative than Valencia and will make chances galore in games but is unpredictable which is his downfall and what makes him a good players. Some times the players are unsure what he will do but with Valencia you know what he is going to do and he normally does it well. However, if you show him inside he can't really do anything as shown with Barcalona.
Nani.Look back to the Barca game,Valencia was totally out of depth, and when Nani came on, he was the only one who looked like a threat.
