Magnetic model of the dome at CERN is used to create a 100 mm diameter plasma Sun with a 300 mm diameter equatorial disc of plasma around it. All the plasma videos are actual footage with no enhancement or manipulation other than speed. This is different research concerning the electromagnetic fields around all particles but it in line with the electric universe theory.

pretty awesome experiment.

Sorry, JB missed this. My point wasn't a statement that there are no absolutes in science, there may well be (absolute zero springs to mind lol)...they may get proven or not by us in our strive for answers but that is different from the starting point of any deity driven religion which necessarily starts with at least one absolute, remove that absolute and you remove the entire foundation of the religion: you can't have faith in an entity which has made proclamations on how to live if you don't really believe it exists.

Surely science starts with the "anything is possible (including its possible not anything's possible)" and then follows with "now prove it".? At the moment scientists commonly agree to a set of physical laws but they're constantly being challenged. They may withstand that challenge or new evidence may "break" those laws.

Religion starts with "these are the rules" and follows with various degrees of rigidity "now follow them"

Again I'm not categorically stating either is wrong but to me one has a natural tendancy to stagnate while the other is in constant motion which makes them difficult but not impossible to reconcile.

No need. It's all been highly amicable- no disagreements at all.
Go back to sleep.

Aren't all absolutes either mathematical or hypothetical? I mean Pi, the ratio of circumference to diameter could be considered and absolute as it never varies by definition, like other 'constants' in mathematics and physics.

Frank's example above of absolute zero is, i think, an example of a hypothetical absolute. It's the hypothetical temperature where there is no kinetic energy in a substance, i.e. the constituent atoms do not move. I'm pretty certain this has never been recorded or attained (not sure, though), although I've read of very low temperatures being generated which are to within minute fractions of absolute zero.

Which brings me to one of my naff jokes:

Did you hear about the man who was reduced in temperature to absolute zero? HE was 0 K! :bandit:

... I'll get my coat ... <laugh>

i didn't think there was such a thing as absolute zero.

unless i am on about another equation, in which case apologies, but isnt it 0.00001 or something silly.

It's the hypothetical lowest temperature any substance can get to: 0k or -273℃ or something.

As CCC says scientists have got incredibly close but since nothing can supposedly exist at the zero they're not likely to actually ever prove it.

cheers frank <ok>

never know one day they might, i believe they thought at one point that nothing lived below the ice in the Antarctic or somewhere as they thought it was too cold for anything, and they have proven life exists, never know.

sadly it will probably be something that wipes out the human race that can survive such a temperature in near future, but as of now we don't need to worry about that thank fully.
