Mooney says on BBC Sport that he doesn't consider us a sinking ship but says some interesting things including: "i can understand why the fans are concerned by the situation, if Malky goes it's obviously a massive appointment to bring the next manager in and hopefully he'll go on and take the club a step further" He seems to believe it's transitional and that we will come out the other side and hopefully have an improved season. An interview full of positives but truthfully it appeared to be delivered in a concerned way. Talking about Graham Taylor being a stabalising influence he says: "There's an awful lot of good managers out of work and I'm sure with Graham Taylor in charge, as a player with him for years at Watford, I know very few things surprise him. "I'm sure he'll be putting wheels in motion, speaking to people and will appoint somebody for the benefit of the club, it won't be a knee-jerk reaction." That sounds sensible to me and reasuring.
Well, when Lewington left and we got the unknown Boothroyd, we were concerned... When Boothroyd went and we got the unkown Rodgers, we were concerned... When Rodgers went and we promoted the untested MacKay, we were concerned... Each time we were ok. We move on, we always do.... We are actually an attractive proespect to a lot of managers out there. Some very good players backed up by a very good academy with scope to bring in more players. There are a lot of freebies out there so we need to bring in someone soon to get some of those. Even hiring a lower-league manager has it's advantages, knowing some of the better players down there who they might have wanted to sign but didn't have the pull, but now they do!
I wouldn't worry too much..... i know at the moment everyone is getting nervous and speculating, but really is change really that bad? If Graham Taylor left then i would panic, i admit the sales of Graham and Buckley (Who i happen to think is going to have a bright future like Young!) were upseting and now that Malky is going (not yet!) but this is exciting, a new manager to shake things up and a new owner to do things different, it may be of course exactly what we need. To be honest isn't Watford an interesting challenge for most managers, we have a top academy and good players already at the club i think we could attract someone with more experience
I just wish it would end now so we can get over it and move to the next phase. Optimistically this is how I hope the next few weeks pan out: We appoint a new manager, the fans (with the exception of Garry) are reasonably happy, the new manager then starts to dip into the transfer/loan market and builds/moulds his own team with his choice of players. The fans are much happier. Pre-season games kick off and we give easy wins to the first three games as the team settle and test each other. The fans scream for a new manager, a new owner, better chips at half time…. (Garry starts to post his incessant dross again) Saturday 6th August a sunny weekend trip to Burnley and once again Watford are favourites to be relegated, the fans are nervous, the game kicks off ………… we have all forgotten how we were feeling during the week commencing 13th June (with the exception of Garry who has his I”I told you MM was rubbish” posts)
