He looks brilliant. He should be ahead of Rooney in the England pecking order IMO.

Great to see when he went through one-on-one with Vorm he knocked it round him but then instead of going down and trying to get the keeper sent off like his mate Suarez does nearly every game (and many other players do at the moment) he actually tried to score fairly (and succeeded).

His record since leaving Chelsea (the Bolton loan spell included) is absolutely ridiculous.

He should be a certain starter for England.

I've bored people to tears for five years now banging on about Sturridge - good to see him finally fulfilling that potential. I could never work out how Man City let him get away so easily and how Chelsea could misuse him the way they did (and then to give up on him).

There's room for him and Rooney in the same England team - let's face it, there are hardly hordes of class players fighting for those places, are there?

He should be starting, with Rooney just behind.

Are you basing best on ability? Because he certainly wasn't the best performer against us this season.

I'd have said Lallana or Hazard. Can't remember much about Rooney's performance apart from the ridiculous goal.

Trevor Hazard of Chelsea wasn't bad but not as good as Micky Rooney.

He was all over the pitch, put in a shift, physically strong, great stamina, great passer.

They just put a stat up on MOTD, Sturridge is the second best striker in Europe based on minutes per goal. He does look absolutely class.

    Aye, Lallana for me.

I was at a wedding for the CHelsea game so couldn't comment on his performance. Though IMO Hazard is the best player in the League.

Makes you wonder why he's failed elsewhere.....

Sturridge was injured for both Liverpool games against us so hardly fair to rule him out based on that.

He is an amazing player, and while he was at Chelsea I entertained the faint glimmer of hope we'd be able to get him on loan if we went up.

He's still young, he's not had a sustained run of games being the main reasons.

Henderson isn't doing his cause any harm. He has improved hugely this year.

Aye, he's slowly getting that price tag off his head. He's going to be Liverpool's ling term replacement for Gerrard I think.

He's a good player, I hope Roy takes him to Brazil, especially over Cleverley.

Sturridge should start, so should Rooney. Rooney's best position is in the hole anyway.

Yep. Don't see why they can't play together. One of Rooney's problem for England is he insists on playing up front but wants to drop deep. Wtf? Just play deep in the first place like everyone wants you to! I've seen people suggesting we should play only one of them against the better sides. Why be so negative? Haven't we learnt from this. Got at them, use our best players and see how much damage they can do.

    Something along the lines of:

    Back 4
    Gerrard Wilshere
    Townsend Rooney Oxlade
    Sturridge

    Would be great.

Swap Townsend for Lallana and, depending on form, Wilshere for Barkley and i'm with you.

Wilshere/Barkley/Lampard/Carrick - all fighting for one place alongside Gerrard? I'd pick Barkley - he looks the real deal.

Townsend/Lallana/Oxlade/Lennon - all fighting for one or two starting places?

I think Woy will pick Welbeck as well as Sturridge and Rooney, meaning there's only one place for the wingers/Lallana.
