I know this is fanciful and I deserve to get shot down in flames, but has it dawned on anyone else that next season we could be a decent BPL team playing in in Europe and the FA Cup holders...It's not beyond possibility.

It's certainly not impossible, just improbable.

BPL? I know it's Barclays, but I always read it as British and it annoys me heh.

Anyhow, yes I can see us being a decent PL team next season, no doubt in my mind about that. Although I think we can beat Brighton tomorrow, Sunderland would be hard work and can't see us winning a final without J-Lo.

Next season, yes, I can easily see us adding decent cup runs to our history and also pushing for Europa League qualification.

We beat a team that will very likely go down and now we can look forward to next a successful second season in the PL - with a run in Europe to boot.

Talk about an over-reaction to one result !

We were crap at Brighton and yesterday we didn't outplay Cardiff - just 'out finished' them.

This league is unrelenting - we're in a good position but that's all it is. We could quite easily lose the next 4 games again......

It's a time for level heads with just a hint of optimism.

You're right to be realistic - however your finishing position is usually related to your attacking strength (not always but usually) I think if we can stay up this season we will have a fantastic season to look forward to in 2014/15 - no doubt a few additions and a few leaving us but I don't imagine huge changes - looking positively next season could be one we have never seen in our 110 years

I thought we wouldn't be allowed to play in Europe anyway with FFP? If we got past Brighton and Sunderland I couldn't see us beating any top teams without our front two TBH, although if we got lucky and drew Charlton or a Sheffield club and went through to the final against a Champions league club we could still get into Europe if they let us even as a runner up.

Precisely. Our front two looked great yesterday, but there's no way we'll win the cup while they're cup-tied.

That was BS. We have not been banned from Europe.

If we got into a final against Arsenal I think we'd be in Europa? Not that I want us to, don't think we have the squad for it yet.

Which is why I complained about the cuptie rule being outdated on a previous thread.

The rule should be that if your previous club is eliminated, you are therefore eligible. That or just abolish the rule altogether.

There should be no rule at all. If you can play your old team in the league why not the cup?

There's no cuptie rule in the League Cup either from what I recall.

There is. Though, laughably, you can serve a suspension whilst cup-tied which has been known to cause confusion in January time. (players moving and racking up bookings but not missing enough games as there were League semi-final games)

To be fair your results don't worry me, I don;t think you'll be anywhere near the fight.

It's everyone below you who bothers me.

We don't yet know what would happen, we have definitely breached the UEFA rules, it's up to UEFA if they'd allow us to compete or not.

Have we definitely breached UEFA's rules? Can you show me which rule we've breached? (Not trying to be a smart ass, but I hear one thing then I hear the complete opposite so would like something set in stone).

UEFA have issued a Toolkit which gives examples ‘requirement breach’ scenarios. Scenario 4 (on page 90) is the one that applies to Hull and Cardiff:

Under the FFP rules, total losses made during the 2011/12 & 2012/13 seasons combined had to be kept below 5m euros (£4.1m) unless the owner injected equity (i.e. hard cash) to cover the loss. Where the owner injected equity, clubs could record total losses after exclusions* of up to 45m euros. The issue for both clubs is that their accounts make it clear that they exceeded the 5m euro loss but have not injected the equity.

The requirement to inject equity into the club was created by UEFA to ensure that club debts cannot grow significantly. Cardiff and Hull’s owners were required to put their hand in their pocket and pay cash into the club, rather than simply extending their loans to the club. Club owners have been historically reluctant to put hard cash into their clubs - generally they have much preferred to grow the club debts. Essentially the owners can only get equity back when they either sell the club, or if the club makes a profit and they are paid a dividend.

Changes in club’s equity must be registered within 14 day at Companies House (via form SH1). Although other Premier League clubs that had made losses above 5m euros have injected equity, no such increase in share capital has been registered for Hull or Cardiff prior to this deadline.

Do you reckon, if Prophet Allam had a crystal ball last year and saw us at this point with a strong squad, 2 winnable home ties away from a semi final with a 1 in 3 chance of drawing lower league opposition in the semi final, and a very high chance that whoever makes the final will gain European qualification, would he have converted te loan to equity in order to qualify?

My guess is not, and should we qualify for Europe, he'd just have a rant at FIFA telling them nobody can tell him how to run his business, to have a look at his cv for comfort of his credentials, and that the clubs finances will turn out just fine. And that Platini can die whenever he wants.
