"Sherwood will blame it on the Ukraine trip, no doubt." Which won't wash. For all his insistence on playing Bentaleb, I would have expected to see Veljkovic or other Academy players featuring by now if the injury situation is bad.
Is Bentaleb, Sherwood's love child or something? Seems to play every game, despite not impressing that much.
Bentaleb is utter guff - contributes so little to the team effort. Meanwhile a team starved of creativity sits Eriksen on the bench. It beggars belief it really does.
That was a ****ing disgrace - dare I say, worse than anything under AVB! No effort, no skill and sod-all creativity. Is there anyone still out there who thinks either rose or Naughton should be anywhere near a top half PL team? Dawson was appalling. Dembele didn't look interested - same for Paulinho - and Bentaleb was shown up for what he is, potentially a decent if uninspired midfielder. (Does he really give us more than Jake?) Dreadful - absolutely dreadful!!
We need the top 4 to pull away seriously in the next couple of weeks. I don't think we can take it if we somehow are still in the mix come Apr 1st.
Bentaleb's a decent player, but he's going to become a controversial one at WHL if Sherwood insists on picking him in every game, for every minute, regardless of form, fitness or team tactics. He's gone from never featuring to being ever present and it's not good for either the side or the player.
I think the Fulham game last year on march 17 was the day 4th place was gone, this year it was today ... always next year I suppose
I though this game would be a gimme for you guys especially because Tim Sherwood is back from his Honeymoon Period....... Oh yeh
He's a decent enough player and if we keep his role limited to more of the defensive side then he's good. The trouble is we play 6 players infront of the defence and they're sent out to run around for 90 minutes with no real shape and it's all just a mess. Apart from Everton the games we've won have been against teams who've played crap and our quality has given us the result. We're still doing this crap week in week out though and whilst "we attack you attack" has worked for us it's really just like rolling the dice, if the opposition create better chances or we don't take ours then we don't win. I don't think anyone could tell you with any certainty what formation we're playing from game to game and it shows.
As a Spurs fan I'm a bit disappointed for spurs but I'm glad for Chrisy the best left back i seen foe spurs.
Sluggish, leggy performance all round. Paulinho strolled around like he didnt care, Vertonghen was awful along with the whole back four, Bentaleb was poor. Lennon, Chadli, Dembele and Ade were poor but at least put some effort in. No surprise our better performers were Ade, Lennon, Dembele and Lloris, all of whom did not travel to Ukraine, the rest all travelled and looked like they were still asleep. The tinpot Europa has cost us points again. FFS!
He was right back primarily, but I tend to agree with the sentiments.... His salvation is the one saving grace from today's omnishambles! Edit - apologies - must be getting old or just distressed after today's debacle. CH was left back!
I don't want to go overkill on attacking one player but Danny Rose has really annoyed me with today. He's meant to be our first choice left back and gets caught out of position time and time again. Even Gordon Strachan highlighted this in midweek. He has to make so many last ditch tackles in order to make up it. The City game for example, when he got sent off was unfortunate but would have been avoided if he'd been positioned correctly. Similarly today he got caught out by Snodgrass and couldn't react in time to deal with it. He's a reactive player rather than proactive. What I really couldn't stand was that 5-10 minutes after he made the mistake, he loses the ball on the edge of their box and jogs (walks) back to his position leaving Snodgrass completely free. The lack of effort really annoyed me. I can accept players who make mistakes, but to not make an effort or attempt to learn from their mistakes does my head in.
Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood: "I thought we were poor in the first half, we saw an improvement after half time but they got a goal that put the winds in their sails. We created clear-cut chances after that, but if you don't score you don't win football matches. "The second half was more like what we know we can do, but we are bitterly disappointed. We have to tighten up our entire performance. We've got two home games where we have to bounce back, we have to see if we have the character to do that." --------------------- Clear-cut chances? Does he mean the two one-on-ones Adebayor had where he had an incredibly heavy touch?
Well played Chris and canaries., but that was a pretty awful display by Spurs, from beginning to end. Even the first half substitution took about 15mins to complete. No cohesiveness, No urgency, No fcuk all, shoddy defending, No strength in midfield. I don't think a counted more then 3 decent passes, all game. A dreadful performance from a wannabe top four side. The only good thing about today is that we played Norwich, because had we played any of the top six clubs..... we would've got puff-pasted.
Totally disagree, Rose was tackling Dzeko who got the ball in the box because the centre backs weren't doing their job. He and Walker are the only players in our side that seem to be consistently offering an outlet on the wings. He does get caught out at times but a shudder to think how crap we'd be if they stayed back and just left the 6 infront of them to create chances on their own all game. The delivery's inconsistent but how many chances are the likes of Dembele and Bentaleb creating, even Paulinho isn't doing much for the vast majority of the games. Rose not always getting back is the least of our problems.
At the end of the day the full backs job is to defend and anything they offer going forward is a bonus. If he made the same effort as Walker does in getting forward and back then great. But he doesn't. He has no excuse for strolling back towards his own goal when they are attacking. He simply is not a full back.
Don't underestimate Norwich at home - 20 points from 14 games, only conceded 11, 4 consecutive clean sheets now (including City last time) - last home goal conceded was in the 0-1 defeat to Utd on 28th December. Only one home loss by more than one goal (Chelsea 1-3). Always tight games. No pushovers.
