If he starts getting involved in stuff that he doesn't really know anything about, are we allowed to call him Dunning-Kruger?
Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport 2m For those asking, Ralph Krueger will be involved at #saintsfc at board level, probably as non-exec director, but is close friend of owner
It's not unusual for us, but surely a bit early to be slagging him off before he has even got here, I know history isn't on our side, but for pities sake cut him some slack, if he brings the winning mentality shown by the Canadian Ice Hockey Team to us, he will get my backing.
Good job we're not a hockey team looking for a coach then. Clearly he won't be involved in team affairs. He's someone who knows sport and apparently business, and is trusted by Liebherr. I don't see a problem with him being on the board at all. Cortese wasn't a football man either, don't forget.
In the radio interview from which the quotes come from he wasn't even 100% sure of the full details of his role. Despite that vague statement he came across really well in the interview and was very clear in his ambitions or lack of ambition when it came to football and long term he would like to get back into the NHL as a head coach. Said his job was to help the whole "Organisation" in leadership
Well if he had any role in motivating the Canadian Men's and Women's ice hockey teams his experience will be useful.
I know I am at best a negative person , but what the hell do we need him for ? Manager manages the playing team , and all that it entails . Simple as IMHO . Board / Chairman sign off transfer targets or not as the case maybe . The fact he is a friend on KL , smacks of jobs for the boys , I HONESTLY hope I am wrong , but I have a bad feeling about this .
We may not need him, but Katharina obviously does. She wants a board made up of people she knows who will have her interests at heart. Better to have someone with sports experience. Could easily have been a bean counter...Nicola knew little of football (though he had been involved in sports finance). Think people are worrying unnecessarily and see conspiracies everywhere. Sometimes things are as simple as they look.
Come on, it's obvious. Liebherr knows nothing about organising a sporting outfit and he does. She is familiar with him and he will be an adviser to her. How could his appointment negatively affect us in any way?
A sports lover understands how important our club is to us...hockey, football...makes no difference. Better than someone who thought the bottom line was all that mattered.
Good point and as a former coach of the Edmonton Oilers he will understand that more than anyone. That town lives for its Hockey team
Hullo Everyone, It's my first post after lurking for a while and being a former member of the Saints Web where I was driven off by nutters [Alpine Saint] I though I'd 'case the joint out'. It looks like most of you are reasonably sane so I might post from time to time. My opinion on this particular situation is we have to wait to judge him, after all you wouldn't like it if you got a new job and everyone immediately thought you'd only got the job because you knew the boss and were going to be rubbish before you even set foot in the building. I have family in Canada [Edmonton specifically but now Salt Spring Island and Vancouver Island too] and all I can add to the debate is that Canadian ice-hockey players have a deserved reputation of being team players and not having the same huge egos that US players sometimes have [there are obvious exceptions to the rule] so I think Krueger will find Saints a good club - I can't imagine anything he finds will be different from north American ice hockey other than the actual game. I say give him a chance.
I agree. All good leaders, surround themselves with people who have strengths in areas they are not. I don't see sports as necessarily Ms Liebherr's area of expertise. The second thing on that list of people to employ, and joint top is surround yourself with people you trust. Good move if she is comfortable with it and manages his role properly.
Bit naïve that bit in bold Jasper. It's a bit like asking why an F1 team needs all the back up management... I mean they have a driver after all
All work class operations take leadership and the development of its people as a no 1 priority. The introduction of this role by KL just indicates to me how seriously she wants to ensure all parts of SFC are supporting the 1st team. Leaving Poch to manage in isolation is just short term. For our club to continually improve in a way that doesn't rely on just a few individuals dragging us along, requires someone to keep a watch on effective leadership and encourage everyone to stay focussed. This can only help us to get better, its not a threat.
