We don't need anymore players..this squad will give us a chance for a playoff spot.. A really good win for the Green's..
Agreed BC a good win as are any away. Can't agree that this squad will trouble the judges at the end of the season for a play off spot though. Nowhere near consistant enough and I would like to see a few more wins at home for their paying customers rather than away. We seem to do well at Dagenham for some reason.
Many results from teams around us to our advantage plus we have a game in hand over teams above us...a good day indeed.
2,027 at Dagenham yesterday of whom 746 were Greens. How do clubs survive & compete in the Football League on those sorts of attendances? 5:4:1 yesterday with Berry and Parsons as wingbacks. If it brings 3 points I'm OK with that...
I felt sorry for them really.....Dag & Red is an amalgamation of quite a few amateur teams over quite a period.....Ilford,Leytonstone and Walthamstow Avenue....these became Redbridge Forest and then they amalgamated with Dagenham when both clubs were dying without enough support......this happened in 1992. Not surprising when you realize that their local pub has picture galore of West Ham....who are only a few stops down the District Tube Line......add to that other reasonably local clubs......Arsenal,Chelsea,Orient...plus a few others who are only short journeys away.
Location hence why we get 6000+ at a home game and can get several thousand more. No competition from anywhere else much in Devon and Cornwall. It may be a drawback to attracting players but it is a distinct advantage with the numbers game. You do have to wonder how some of these clubs even last a season on the revenue they have. I would have thought to have any chance at all you would need a minimum of 4000 at home matches but some clubs would dream of those numbers. I know we have debts that are historic and still being paid but even with that we comfortable do the 4000 allowing for the other 2000 to pay the piper. On the face of it we should be ripping up a league like this with far superior financial clout.
Well Mr Sensible yet another away win and up to 8th with a game in hand for a playoff spot... Now if we can win at home look out...
Wow! almost choked on my sandwich as went on Herald site....thought they were playing tonight! Good chance of playoff spot now I think Sensible as long as they keep up the good work.....
well played argyle, delighted to see your position in the league. thankfully it is light years since the dark days.
Well if anyone had predicted a 4-0 away win at Fleetwood last night... there might of been a message from Gat asking if your finger had slipped....and giving you a chance to rectify your obviously wrong score. Having seen the D&R match on Saturday I felt that there where signs of things coming together.....and we could of scored more.....I felt that although the aging Wotton is being lambasted because he is too old,too slow and has lost his hammer shot....he brought a stability and his experience and organization to the game which others fed off. We do have one or two on the bench now who can come on and keep the momentum going....earlier in the season the bench looked totally devoid of any use whatsoever. They just need to work out how to grab the game by the scruff of the neck when playing at home and dominate and score goals....6000 plus behind them is something most clubs in this division can only dream about......let them feed off that and go for it.....suddenly their league position looks encouraging.
The biggest problem I have with it all is the flattering to deceive syndrome. By that I mean we have been here before and the wheels invariably come off. We get a couple of wins, against the odds if we are honest, and suddenly people are talking promotion form and playoffs. I have not missed more than two games this season at home and although they have played quite well at times it has not been sustained for long. If you look at the league we could lose the next 4 or 5 games and find ourselves in 22nd spot. Not relegation but certainly proping up the league again. I refuse to get carried away. I would like them to get into a playoff spot and would love them to get to Wembley again. Fabulous day out. Financially huge. However, I'm still not expecting it.
We have a similar problem over here with our Vancouver Canucks Hockey Team..they sell out at every home game with 18500 in the seats...in yet they have a good chance of Missing the Playoffs. They lose to the easy teams and beat the hard teams.. You have to be consistent in any team sport to be a winner... Which Sensible you have been telling us all along..
I do want to be excited and stuff BC I really do and I really do want them to get into the playoffs. I just can't see it without the green tints on and I've put them down somewhere and can't seem to find them at the minute.
