Right, I am sorry to create another thread, but I think this is deserved, there are a fair few who claim that our form this season has been relegation form, and they have a fair point due to our precarious position at stages. But what interests me is how those who claim the poor form, keep putting down claims that the form was not half as bad as we expected.

Now if you were to look at our fixtures at the start of the season, which games would you give us wins and draws? And how many points would you have us down for at the end of the season?

The idea came to me when reading Dragonphils, Dai's and jackuzi's posts about our form. And how over the last 39 games, we have won just 8, now that is fact, a fact which I have been adamant from the start is the most basic of fact going. So I am very interested to see what those 3 guys think, along with anyone else willing to give it a go.

I would like to know how many points you think we should have been sat on at the time ML was sacked.

    Man Utd (h)
    Tottenham (a)
    Albion (a)
    Liverpool (h)
    Crystal Palace (a)
    Arsenal (h)
    Southampton (a)
    Sunderland (h)
    West Ham (h)
    Cardiff (a)
    Stoke (h)
    Fulham (a)
    Man City (a)
    Newcastle (h)
    Hull City (h)
    Norwich City (a)
    Everton (h)
    Chelsea (a)
    Aston Villa (a)
    Man City (h)
    Man Utd (a)
    Tottenham (h)
    Fulham (h)
    West Ham (a)
    Cardiff (h)
    Stoke (a)
    Liverpool (a)
    Crystal Palace (h)
    Albion (h)
    Everton (a)
    Norwich City (h)
    Hull City (a)
    Chelsea (h)
    Newcastle (a)
    Aston Villa (h)
    Southampton (h)
    Sunderland (a)

Now me personally I would have had us down for a total of 46 points. Thats as basic as it gets, as I write off games against the big clubs, and any points there is a bonus, and like to go for the basic of home wins and away draws against the clubs in our mini league. We will then maybe sneak a point here or there against the big clubs, whilst we may also drop the odd point during away games. So for me it is 46 (only home game non win for me is Southampton)

    With home wins against
Sunderland, West Ham, Stoke, Newcastle, Hull, Fulham, Cardiff, Palace, Albion, Norwich, Villa

    With draws against
Albion, Palace, Southampton, Cardiff, Fulham, Norwich, Villa, West Ham, Stoke, Hull, Newcastle, Southampton, Sunderland

Now what is interesting also, is based on what I think we should have got, after the West Ham game, we based on my guess, would have had 26 points, where as we in fact had 24 points, so 2 points short, hardly that bad. So am interested to see what you think we should have had throughout the season, and base it on what ML had up to the point he got sacked. And then also compare it at the end of the season to see what Monk got, and see if you are as eager to bay for blood then if it doesn't go to plan. So yeah, just a bit of fun.

I'm sure we can find the games and lost points under Laudrup, without too much difficulty swanselona, I'll start with the first game against Cardiff under Laudrup, what a bloody disgrace of a performance, now there's 3 points for starters!.................<laugh>

Put it to the test then Dragon, lets see where you think we should get our points from, and see how you have done compared to our actual season total.

Laudrup has gone - I am grateful for everything he achieved with us but the fact is that we were under performing on a regular basis post Capital Cup! The West Ham game was the last straw - not the result, but the performance which was as bad as I have seen in recent memory! Our passing game is only effective if it is done at speed and recent performances under Laudrup were pedestrian at best.

I was sad when he went but, to be honest, his position was untenable and we were in danger of sleepwalking to relegation.

Monk has restored the passion, spirit and urgency that we have been sorely lacking since that glorious Wembley victory. We have much to thank ML for but if he had remained as our manager I believe that relegation would have been pretty much inevitable. I am much more confident in the team under GM; the passion is back, the passing is quicker and our performances since Laudrup's departure have been streets ahead of the performances during his recent tenure!

Will always be grateful to ML - he has cemented his place in Swansea's history, but I think he had taken us as far as he could.

At one end of those "39 games " swanselona was Laudrup getting 40 points in 28 .games and winning the League Cup and a berth in the Europa Cup to start last season . At the other end was an easier shedule starting with Cardiff . We actually played well during injury madness. Thought Pozeulo really came to bat for us from the Newcastle game on for a bit, lots of promise there. Should have had at least 8 more points now if not for the miserable injury streak we endured . Well , at least there almost all healthy now.

I beg to differ there. we were dropping points left right and center when we had a full squad. It was mentioned at the time that michu was not as good because of bad service but nothing changed, we kept on playing exactly the same, laudrup had no answer and no plan B other than play players out of position or not play players that can change a game, Look how many times he dropped Leon and he would not play bony if we were against a big team, Look how we deteriorated last season to end up the worst form side that has carried on this season if you look at his record, We could not go on like that man, Its plain suicide and when the players are not happy and the atmosphere at the liberty was at an all time low and we couldn't buy a win then something had to change and seeing as he is the manager then it makes perfect sense that he had to go....You cant blame injuries on everything as an excuse for our poor form over a year old as that's plain crazy, I accept that teams can go through a blip during the season but come on now that's pushing it to far....Laudrup was just not our type of manager, he never was...

27 points for me through West Ham....48 season end.

I would also be interested to see what others expectations were....although I won't hold my breath as it would likely render their poor form argument a little weak.

Thankyou for being one that attempted it Jack unlike others who instead waste time posting excuses like I expected them to do.

But what do you reckon we will get from our remaining games?

Thankyou Jack, so up til west ham we were 3 points short, which is not all that bad. But like you said, most won't bother, because they know there is some home truths in what we are saying, and will make excuses, such as above not to do it. But yet will still be quick enough to bring up the form excuse later down the line when it suits.

Up to the WHU game I'd have gone for 36 points (this of course with a fully fit squad)

By the end of the season I'd have predicted 52 points <ok>

Thanks Valley, sounds like a fantastic season, considering our past 2 seasons, plus our Europa league exploits on top of it :)
