Chelsea are the latest club to enter the very competitive race to sign Udinese star
Alexis Sanchez, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Chile international is rapidly becoming Europe's hottest property. Manchester City and Manchester United are already going up against Barcelona, Juventus and Inter Milan as a host of top clubs battle for his signature.

Current club Udinese are aiming to play Sanchez's suitors against each other to drive the price up to around £32million.

Chelsea's interest marks a clear indication that owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to invest heavily in his side once again. The Blues have already seen a £22m bid for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric rejected.

Sanchez, aged 22, bagged 12 Serie A goals last season and has been dubbed the new Cristiano Ronaldo.

Udinese spokesman Stefano Antonelli said: "There are clubs who are doing everything to get hold of him - Barcelona, City, United and two Italian clubs.

"All the clubs we talked about have a chance of signing him, but right now my feeling is that he's more likely to go abroad."

No-one will turn down Barca if they had the chance so I'm sure that as long as they meet the asking price he will go there.

The English clubs are probably bottom of that list of teams as I think he quite fancies staying in Italy to.

I think we are getting involved just to up the price tag so United have to spunk most of their borrowed transfer fund on one player. <laugh>
