Seems a good-natured, down-to-earth kind of guy. Personally I think he's got a really good chance of going to the world cup.
He wasn't bad. He was in a system that Roy got caught out with. Chile manager outthought him and Jay ended up having to cover the left back slot most of the night. If it had been Welbeck making those tracking back tackles the papers would've said it was a good performance but because it was a debut for Jay it was scrutinised much more and they were wanting fireworks from the start. They were probably disappointed that Lallana did so well so while they gave him praise through gritted teeth singled out Jay for the stinging criticism. I certainly don't think that in that match any other option would've done any better. Ox or Welbeck would've had the same game.
Yep. It's unfair for anyone to say he played badly. He didn't have a chance to shine and show what he is capable of. Average positions of the England team that started. 11 is Rodriguez..(3 is Baines) please log in to view this image
Hope he's not too hung up on his England debut, could be a thorn in his side when it really was nothing. Suppose he'll be asking Roy to please, please, please let him get what he wants with a call to Brazil.
Well i wonder if he might be joined by adam and rickie in brazil, is it really so strange that england could field 3 southampton players, I guess we'll have to stretch out and wait. I better stop now, this joke isn't funny anymore
I agree about Jay's international debut. It was a terrible game for England in general and he worked hard. England were lucky that he was so fit and tracked back. I thought the criticism might damage his confidence, but he has always been positive about the experience and hasn't looked back. Let's hope Roy sees the truth and he gets another call up (sadly 50/50 I would think).
He's a top lad is our Jay. I met a lady from Burnley two weeks ago; huge Burnley fan. She said they absolutely love Jayrod and still see him as one of their own.
Sadly I agree. If he gets up to last year's figures he may stand a chance. I think he needs a couple of Games rest.
I have an inkling he may take a real step back this summer and be a bit part substitute, leading up to a retirement due to his back.
Jay should certainly be in with a shout for his consistent form this season. What really annoys me is the list of names that get linked to the squad just because they have played well in a handful of games. Wilfred Zaha is currently being mentioned and he has only played a handful of games for Cardiff. A little while back Huddlestone was also being suggested. I am however hopeful that Roy understands the need for players being picked for longer term form as opposed to just a few good games.
So he's a Smiths fan, thats fantastic, and I'd imagine not too common amongst footballers. And he is reading Morrissey's autobiography, well well, thought about giving that a crack myself at some point. Probably facinating and infuriating I'd imagine. Good song references guys, tyring to think of one myself.......but stop me if you think youv'e heard this one before......
