Yes, they were more than happy for such an eminent chap to look through their treasures. Or did you mean their cheese rolls?
Ponders i would love to skew over his posts, but if i did that then that rules out almost every thread. Even the ones he doesn't start he more often than not starts bickering with someone and then i have to skew the replies as well. I tried that before, hence me not coming on here for such a long time
That is certainly not a considered statement, Mike. Each debate has two sides, so what would this forum be like without the counter arguments? Boring and too Pro-Powell. Vol is an excellent poster, and his love for the club comes through in spades. He sticks to his guns and I respect him for that.
I find it difficult to respect people who despite several decent posts, throw in far too many that are easily questionable. As soon as someone disputes one of these claims, he gets all heated and gets quite insulting at times. If it continues i will end up leaving again, and i know people already use this forum less than they used to for exactly the same reason. When people finally do get fed up with it and leave, then this forum will be one sided, which people say they do not want. I used to get along with everyone on here, regardless of differing opinions. However i have now had my support questioned untold times, and had several narky replies for simply asking questions in the past. Why should people put up with that? I used to post threads with my views on certain aspects of the club but i do not see the point anymore because the usual suspects will just hop on to start an argument and that defeats the entire point of a discussion.
I also respect your opinion, Jimmy. Stick with it, though. There will be plenty to debate in the coming weeks...
This is exactly the problem. Ponders is right we are all Charlton fans on here, so what could be more insulting than to have that questioned? Every time I offer a different opinion to Vol, and Typical to a lesser extent I get called a lady part which I'll live with, but to question my loyalty to the club because of where I sit and what I think, that offends me, and will offend others. It seems to me that they have in their minds a model of what a Charlton fan should be and what they should think, they seem to think "the plastics" lack ambition, yet it is they that would rather have a hardcore support that looked and thought just like them. So maybe 3000-4000. I remember some bloke sitting next to me at a home game against Villa asking me why that Villa chap was getting clapped, it was Mark Kinsella. He really was a plastic and I guarantee he's already gone, but he paid his money, clearly enjoyed the game, helped fill our now half empty stadium, he annoyed me at the time but I wish he and his ilk were still around. I too am becoming bored with every thread being hijacked to make the point that either they don't like Powell or they don't like certain types Charlton fans, and that they love the club more that the rest of us. Debate is a good and healthy thing, but repetition of one or two points followed by an insult (or a perceived insult) isn't debate. If it helps formulate your response, and reinforce your stereotype I'm not going to be there this afternoon, a colleague got me a ticket for the rugby at Twickerham. I'm not a big rugby fan but it's a one off opportunity and I'm very grateful to him so I'm going. I hope they serve bovril.
I would have no problem at all with either Vol or Typical if it wasn't for the digs. I completely respect peoples right to having a different view, and i am always happy to hear the reasoning for peoples views. That seems to be the problem on this forum now though, if you ask someone why they think that way, instead of getting a decent respectful response you get no actual answer, instead you get called a plastic or a pussy or whatever else on the basis you do not instantly agree with a view you wanted to ask a question about. It is unnecessary and puts people off posting
I'm not sure it does. I tend to ignore Typical because this is a football forum and he doesn't post about football, but as I said to V-a-v, he is a hyperbole man, I am a euphemism man, and it takes all sorts. Overall I think this is quite a balanced forum, so stick to your guns, Jimmy, and don't let the bastards grind toy down
I take it I'm one of the bastards... That's not nice at all. If you were to look at the posts more clearly I only dig when I get called a no fan, and the other implied slurs. But you see what you want to see. Still delighted with the win, long overdue.
Cheers Pea, that's three people that like me now. That's more than my, I need to be liked at school years, back in the eighties. Even the teachers used to write graffiti about how much they hated me.
