Hadnt he taken them from 7th to 7th though? Or something close? 1st to 7th is really bad. Whats your view anyway Swarbs? Obviously I want him gone, no matter who we get next ( realistically) I see us improving. Outside of Fergie and Charlton, I dont think moyes is welcome at the club. Unfortunately hes below us.
Benitez took them from 2nd in 2009 to 7th in 2010. Where they stayed for the next three seasons, despite a good number of managerial changes, and large amounts of fan dissatisfaction with the current manager, who eventually seems to be pulling them back up to 4th. My view is that it's too early to judge the long term prospects of a manager based on their first season. I don't see any benefit in making a snap decision to change manager in February when we probably won't get 4th spot anyway. All we risk doing then is getting into a similar sort of trend to Chelsea after Mourinho left in 2007 - change manager for a short term boost, all the while going into a low, slow decline. I'd give Moyes the rest of this season and the start of next. If by November / December next season we aren't seeing some form of improvement then it would be time to consider a change. He's still largely working with SAF's squad and hasn't had much opportunity to measure its true quality and put his own mark on it - what he does this summer and in the start of next season will, imo, be the true measure of his long term potential as a Utd manager.
I think the Liverpool situation is different tbh. Behind the scenes was ****ed up. Not a good example.
Was it the double in 2010 that confirmed our post 2007 decline, or the European Cup in 2012, or the Uefa cup in 2013, or now when we are currently top of the league in 2014? If Budweiser did declines, still wouldn't be as good as our 'decline'!!
Only for that one season. They sorted their finances out under FSG in October 2010, and Dalglish got bags of money to spend. His appointment was the sort of knee jerk reaction some Utd fans are calling for now, and arguably set Liverpool back another year or two. It was your league position. You had a couple of good results in the European cups, and a brief rally in 2010 after us and Liverpool both fell back, but given you had the best side and were by far the richest side winning back to back league titles in 05 and 06, to win one league title in the next seven years after spending £500 million is not a particularly great return. And since then you haven't even mounted a half serious challenge for the league until SAF's retirement gave you the opening. The fact your main challengers at the moment are Arsenal shows you just how far the league has had to decline for you to be competing for it again. Compared to how dominant you were in 05 and 06, and the title challenges you mounted in 07 and 08, it's definitely a decline.
Liverpools mistake was sentiment Swarbs. Hiring Kenny for sentimental reasons. Bit like us really. Weve been set back years imo
One finish outside the top 3 post Jose is hardly a decline that is noteworthy especially given the amount of cups won during that time. I just hope the 'decline' continues. We certainly never fell as bad during those 7 years as you have in 7 months!! If the league has declined that much yet your lot can't even muster a decent punt for the top 4, your decline must be of epic Hollywood type proportions.
No evidence of that yet. Swarbs is exactly correct. Too early to judge and I have also said give him until mid season next year. If his team is still floundering and struggling to get results against mid/low teams, he should be kicked out. The point is to ensure some stability at the top even if it takes two or more years to achieve it. Moyes or no Moyes. Dalglish was hired because their fans put the owners under pressure to recruit him. I didn't see that with Moyes.
Kenny didn't do badly, he took over a mess though he didn't help by wasting a few quid on Carroll and Downing though he did bring in Suarez in but handled the whole Suarez Evra debacle in a way the muricans would not have liked. The crap buys affected our league position but we also hit the post and crossbar 5000 times during his last spell in charge too. A bit of luck would have seen us a couple of places higher and maybe 2 cup wins instead of 1. Fine margins n'all that. If Fergie retired a year earlier Moyes would have had a team in better shape imo, obviously winning the league at a walk last year.
If you saw the state of Jose's wife, you would burst into tears too. you would even move to Manchester to get away from her. She's no Russian bride
Theres clear evidence of it. The worst slump since 1996 for the championship winning side. Blackburn were that side. This just doesn't happen. Under moyes there is no way back. Dispute it as much as you like. Players want out, moyes is not wanted and the hard work over 26 years is being undone in less than 12 months. Put it this way, you will be having similar views before long. Each day moyes apologists drop like flies.
Can you see any signs of progress? At Chelsea we can, Jose has put his stamp on the side and we are a striker or two away from being very powerful again. I just can't see what sort of side Moyes is trying to build
I meant evidence for long term slump. We are only 7 months into his reign FFS. You may well be proved correct. But to call for his dismissal now is surely counter productive. Your benchmark is Ferguson. If you choose that benchmark, you are going for success but also for long term gain and stability. Ferguson also had a difficult start. You are willing to take the good bits but not the difficult ones.
Those who compare Fergie's slow start at United are failure to grasp 2 obvious points: - - Moyes took over the runaway champions and should have at least kept United competitive (especially in such a weak league as Swarbs testifies) - We're in a different era where a couple of years out of the champions league can be a financial disaster.
Exactly, its early days so leta deal with it now rather than hope something might happen. I also find it incredibly insulting of united fans to compare Fergie with moyes. There are no similarities except they are both Scottish. None at all. Can we stop with this bullshit and insulting comparison? Anyway, terrible website, caughtoffside, say we are after klopp in the summer. I have far far more faith in caughtoffside than I do in moyes. In fact I hope that we might actually be interested. Note the use of the words 'hope' 'might' and 'faith'. Popular moyes apologist terms.
You only have to watch a Moyes post match interview to see this guy is out of his depth and devoid of any idea to turn it around. Only pumping serious cash at the problem and hoping it somehow gels is the only answer bar sending him packing. The 'tactics' in the Fulham game has to be the low point of his reign.
Aye, but Mourinho is benefiting from the fact that every Chelsea manager since he left has essentially copied his style of play with varying degrees of success. He has a team that's built for him cos it's a team that he built, and Abramovich has kept together by firing any manager who tried to change it. Moyes on the other hand is trying to play in a different style with different players from his usual approach, so it's always going to be a long process. I'd still rather give him time to learn the ropes and develop a good attacking side than jump on the boring percentage football bandwagon in a desperate grab for short term success. A few more months will tell if he's capable of managing the challenge, and if not then Klopp may be willing to move this summer now his team has been sold out from under him.
