Looks like Enrique is out for the season

    <grr>

Might need to start looking at a healthy LB then too! Coentrao? Zuniga? Asamoah? Lucas Digne?

Not sold on Coentrao - excellent going forward but poor defensively.

I know the 'in' thing is to have attacking full backs but they should still be able to defend lol.

And I don't think Arbeloa was that bad going forward, he was able to support the attack at least (without being the one expected to do the attacking).

in england the primary issue is cutting out crosses and not getting beat on the outside.

we seem to stand 6 yards off so anyone can get a cross in so we don't get beaten by a trick or dribble... we seem to think the cbs can head it or goalie can catch and its ok.

    fair point mito,

have seen full backs stand off and let the attacker get the cross in and it looks like their attitude is well not my problem any more.

City apparently interested in Skrtel. Would you sell him to them? I know he's been decent enough this year but at 29, his value will never get higher and he's still a liability when marking.

    Anything over £10m if take.

Apparently Johnson could still warm himself a new deal with his 110k a week running out at the end of next season.

Only way I'd want him to get a new contract is if he actually starts to give a **** and take a 70% pay cut.

Unlikely to happen. I expect to see him in the Turkish or some such league for his last big payday.

Got to go. 110K on a player thats been replaced by an academy product (Well done to Flanno), will in his 30s and has been poor for the last two seasons. Time to sell end of season, get some money for him, trust the younger lads and use the money saved on his contract elsewhere.

  13. Surely that would make things sweeter if we were to buy him?

He did what he could. Finnan did too but was better at it.

I agree but the problem lies in the existing setup; Brod gets the FBs to provide the width so defensive focuses FBs would be a bit pointless for us.

I'd want more than £10m. Anything over £15m and he's gone.

  14. I would want him on £77k per week either! I wouldn't even want him on £10k per week because his appetite as gone.

Not sure about your maths but a 70% pay cut would put him on 30k a week.

And also that's why I stated, if he started to give a **** and took a pay cut I'd want him to stay.

    #335
  16. Thought you meant a pay cut to 70% <doh>

Still, £33k is also too much.

I don't mind him staying next year if when he plays when he returns from injury he actually looks like he cares.

If I was BR I'd be saying to him, you've been out injured, the WC is coming up, if you don't put the effort in in training and get back into the first team and don't play well there then you won't be first choice for England either going into what is probably your last WC.

If that didn't get him putting a shift in I don't know what will.

  18. I don't think we should be accepting someone giving half arsed efforts and by saying "you've blown it" to Johnson it not only clears a big wage but also sends out a message to others too.

I agree, but if he puts the effort in then there is no doubting his skill set is far superior to our other defenders. I'd certainly trust him at LB more than Cissokho despite his recent improvement in performances.

Remember he still has a year left on his contract as well, no guarantee that anyone would actually want to buy him and pay the same sort of money.

  20. I'd rather have Enrique at LB. Sure, he wonders out of position at times but he has the pace, power and mental strength to recover. Nobody ever beats him down the line and he rarely allows the opposition to get a unchallenged cross in. He's also good going forward although his crossing and shooting are somewhat suspect.

ATM I'd also have Flanagan ahead of Johnson. Sure, Glen is a better player in possession but Jon has the desire, hunger, passion and love for the club, he won't lie down and die for anyone. I'd take that over any player. Isn't that why we all loved Carra so much? Not the best CB in the world but his love and desire made him irreplaceable.
