Your experiences as a football fan matter I'm interested in how and why people become so passionate about football and what being a fan really means. Although football fans have attracted a lot of attention from the media and academia, this has been largely negative. So, as part of a research project at the Unversity of Oxford, I aim to find the more positive side of the fan experience from fans of Premiership teams. This is a great opportunity for you to have your say and be entered into a*£100*draw for taking part. The online survey takes around 5-10 minutes to complete and asks some interesting questions. Please do share the link with other friends who might be interested in getting involved too. With regards to the question about the train. I think the responses should be clarified. I chose to sacrifice myself to save five others. I did not choose that option because they were part of the club, it would not matter to me who they were. I think an extra question such as 'Did the fact that the five people were part of the club influence your answer" should be added.
I think being part of 'the club' is vague too. I imagine some clubs having people within it that they'd be less inclined to die for than others. The term 'club' is too vague for a few of those questions.
PLT, I think you should have offered us a ton for filling your survey in. Regarding the train question - 5 of you died.
Done it. Re the train question: nobody truly knows how they would react until and unless faced with sucha situation. I also hope nobody will have to experience this. A further point: it would be more pertinent to ask a soldier this question, not a football fan.
First, thank you to those of you who've already contributed to the study - it's great to have perspectives from Hull City fans, especially as you've been under-represented so far. Second, thanks for these comments about the nature of the study, it's useful to have feedback. I'd be happy to share the results in a few weeks time, and can explain more about the questions (especially the train scenario) then. I'm excited about this project and the responses have been very interesting, so thanks again for taking part. The more Hull City fans who can get involved, the better (got over 500 responses but only 10 from Hull so far...)
Who thought of these questions? Seriously. Who? I am strong because of my club? What does that even mean? I only carried on to get to the train question. Wish I hadn't bothered.
We should do a "proper survey" pretend were all artsy and academic and it will have serious repercussions for football. What questions can we come up with? First one. Do you wear your replica shirt when giving the wife a good humping?
As did I. But the train question has enlightened me, when Tickles told me to go an jump under a train this morning, he wasn't wishing death on me, he was calling me a very selfless and generous person who would sacrifice my own life to safe others. Thankyou Tickler, I appreciate your compliments, but I wouldn't jump in front of the train. I'd whip me phone out and video the carnage, that's got to be worth a few million hits on the interweb and a few quid for advertisement space on the page.
Somewhat agree. If bought another clubs replica shirt as a christmas present, would you Wear it Use it as fire fuel Use it as bog roll Use it as a doormat Go to the perpetrators house and punch them in the face
I see. Tickler is just someone on here playing a character. One of the mods mentioned that a while back. I think they know who he really is. After all he was once "tigergirrrl" too Maybe "Mr Hat" is just a character too?
I have completed the survey. Whilst I understood the general concept I thought the question about the train was totally inappropriate and had no relevance to this whatsoever. Also I failed to see what relevance someones academic background had to do with this survey. I have a very strong academic background and yet given that it is from a well respected instution I was suprised that you beleived it had any relevance. This aside good luck with the results
