I blame whoever made that thread saying we should cash in on Best before he ruins his PL form. Lambarse must base his transfer decisions on these forums.

 

Lets be honest, a strike force of Shola, Lover, Best and Ranger is hardly going to give many Premiership defences sleepless nights.

With it looking lightly that we will sign Ba and Erdinc, and the journal reporting that we would still be after one more striker even if we sign these two, we will give the opposition far more to worry about.

I agree we shouldn't sell him till we've signed his replacement. No harm in inviting offers for him, though, so we can sell him promptly when the time comes.

I view this quite positively - if they're touting Best about surely it means they already have others lined up and 'irons in the fire' that they are certain will work out? Doesn't it?

Pardew has never ever rated him. I seem to recall he only played against West Ham because of injuries to all our other attacking options then after that Hat-trick he had to give him more game time.

He looked lost in the Championship for us let alone in the Premiership. I think it'd be a miracle if we got 4 million for him. I'd just be happy to break even on that transfer.

He seemed like a good short term signing (like Routledge) to help us get over the final hurdle out of the Championship, but it hasn't really worked out and it's time to cut our losses as he was never going to be here long term

Shola got 5 goals in 28 apps, Best got 6 goals in 11 apps!

Because we will probably get a much better price for him now than in January when he might not even be a benchwarmer.

Shola's price will remain constant because he is an established premiership player. Best is a relatively unknown quanity and his value could increase or decrease. However, Pardew sees him every day in training and must have a pretty good idea of the lad's capabilities.

 

I think this is a very shrew move to get rid of Best as it now allows the 14 years potential Shola has shown to finally come to fruition as the number two striker.

Well it's 6 in 24 really, love how everyone 'conveniently' forgets he played in the Championship, with the Championship winning team that was scoring for fun... and Best didn't score. At all.

I find it funny about people being up in arms about Best going. As I said in the other thread, before his hat-trick people were saying was crap and Hughton's worst signing (after Perch obviously) now all of a sudden he's our best striker?
