Niko Kranjcar: Promotion failure would be ‘disaster’ for QPR

Niko Kranjcar has warned that failure to secure promotion to the Premier League would be a “disaster” for QPR - and believes that Rangers must impose their style on opposition sides.

Rangers are without a win in three matches, a run which has left them fourth in the Championship table, 11 points adrift of leaders Leicester City and four behind second-placed Burnley.

That slump comes despite more investment in the playing squad by Redknapp who, after a summer of rebuilding, added five more loan signings during the January transfer window.

Redknapp insisted earlier this week that QPR remain in the hunt for a top-two finish – and Kranjcar warned that failure to secure promotion would represent failure.

“It would be a disaster not to go up. Getting promotion is the club’s aim and has been mine since the day I arrived here,” said the Croatia international who is on loan for the season from Dynamo Kiev.

“If we were to get promoted in the play-offs it would still be a great achievement. But nobody wants to take that chance. We are still in a position where we can get automatic promotion.

“There are enough games and enough points to play for and the squad is good enough. We are still only four points behind Burnley and have a game in hand.

“We have only got ourselves to blame for the fact that we are not in a better position. But we are still in a good position and have the chance to get into that top two.”

Kranjcar believes that part of QPR’s recent problems is a lack of experience of Championship football, and says they must assert themselves on opponents if they are to turn around their poor form.

“I think in recent games we’ve adopted the style of our opponents too much and the tempo hasn’t been right,” said Kranjcar. “We’re less likely to win physical battles and we’re maybe not that kind of side.

“It’s true that we have a squad with a lot of experience but not so much of it in the Championship.

“We don’t have a young squad full of fresh legs, but we have a squad with quality and can play football.

“We need to do what we do well. We haven’t produced it in recent games and we need to take responsibility for that – all of us. In the last two games we’ve conceded sloppy goals because of our mistakes.

“Each and every one of us needs to think about our own performances. We need to impose the way we play in games. We need to impose our style of play and we haven’t been doing that enough recently.”

Kranjcar also reiterated his desire to make his loan move permanent at the end of the season. He added: “I said so from the day I arrived. I would like to stay.

“I’m happy here. It’s a good club with a good manager and fans – it’s a very good place to be at.

“You also have an owner who gives everything to his club and the players. Everything is in place and QPR is where I want to be.

“It’s up to us to get the club where it deserves to be, which is the Premier League, and I believe we can do that.”

Ok Kranky. Does anyone care about most of our players??.I stopped caring a while back and even more now that the two players who looked like doing something, are both out for the season. It starts with you Kranky,so go get rid of that porkers uniform first!<doh>.Yeh,lets get promoted, have to sell most of the team and have to buy a new team of the same 'type' as before(because we can't spend the big dosh on the good players we would need). We had two seasons of virtual misery the last time, because we weren't ready. I'm off to work.

'Kranjcar believes that part of QPR’s recent problems is a lack of experience of Championship football'

    and

'We don’t have a young squad full of fresh legs'

So glad we took on older Premier League experienced players like Benayoun, Krancjar, Barton, Green, Dunne, Hughes then....

    A load of *******.

These 'talking the talk' pieces are getting tedious.

Just get on and win a few games back to back please.

It gets annoying when players start making the right noises off the pitch but fail to produce on the pitch...

I'm afraid we are getting rather immune to these statements presumably designed to bolster the troops.

I like Krancjar. I've said before that I recon he's the kind of player who benefits from a team to be running well around him, to be in good flow. With that said, he's sometimes looked like the only player who might create something. His age shows but he's still got something to give if there were some good younger players running about him. Maybe him and Ravel will do the trick.

I don't think this article is so bad. The fact is, he would have been approached for this interview. So he spoke. And what he says is what you lot are saying, that they have no real excuses to be underperforming.

Lastly, I've never seen a game where he looks like he can't be bothered.
