Last time I looked tickets were available, will be worth the trip to Lane now, if it had been a 5-0 win then not so much. Maybe that's what Tim was thinking.
Brad...excellent Dawson...ok but mistake led to pen Vertongen...ok but mistake to give away pen Naughton...average Rose ... poor defensively in first half ok in second Coupe...poor Paulinio....good Chadli...good Townsend...poor Soldado...beyond poor Bentaleb...poor
Embarrassing. Cups clearly aren't Sherwood's game. Penalty looked outside of the area but really that's neither here nor there as we were ****. Not sure I blame the players though either. Sherwood and the other 2 were naive in the extreme. The weakened line up I can live with but the bench was ridiculous as I said at the start of the game. The management are guilty of arrogance in thinking that we didn't have to adapt our game to the opposition and conditions, there wasn't any plan once again as "we played run around everywhere and hope we come out on top" for the billionth time. Not impressed at all.
Agree but there was no excuse for the giving the ball away in dangerous positions...and capoue & soldado have noexcuses for being so poor tonight...at least townsend is coming back from a long term injury
"At least we will have a decent pitch to play on" And so will they. And perhaps also relieved of the emotional stress of recent days.
That was dire. It was like we hadn't scouted either the opposition or the ground, though apparently we weren't allowed to train on it. Set up with a variety of players who like to run with the ball on the ground, which was impossible and no support for Soldado, which went the way it always has. The defence kept getting caught by very direct balls, the midfield lacked creativity badly and our striker was utterly isolated. Friedel kept us in this tie. We'll need a massive improvement at WHL to go through now, though. Sherwood's been very poor so far in the cups. Not doing his job prospects much good on that side of the game.
Maybe Sherwood doesn't really give a **** about it, if he was to be honest? Looked to me like a few starters for a bit of consistency, but the rest were the fringe players who need a game.
Levy has placed huge pressure on any manager to get top four so you can't blame Sherwood for not taking the competition that serious as it's second rate compared to the CL and if we try and win it we make top four a even harder task.
Our performances in the EL have gone straight downhill from the beginning of the season on. Less and less convincing wins, and now a loss. You could include all the cups in that nosedive, really.
Brad...excellent Dawson...pretty good Vertongen...Not his best Naughton...One of his better games Rose ... would make a great winger Coupe...tried hard Paulinio....good Chadli...sell him, a poor mans Steed Malbranque Townsend...not at his best Soldado...played well but one horrendous miss and that's what he's paid to do. Bentaleb...tried too hard. Kane & Erikson...should have both started The defense was not organised, set piece delivery was absent and a lack of creativity until Erikson came on. Play Danny Rose on the wing and we would push teams like that backwards.
Christ that was poor - and often self-inflicted. They had one good chance after Townsend wasted some decent build-up by shooting from 40 yards, and another after Pualinho won the ball then passed it straight to Konoplyanka, plus we never seemed to consider closing down on the flanks which saw Rose and Naughton under more pressure than they should've been, and Naughton was getting done by Konoplyanka every time by the end. And, seriously, how hard is it to see that Chadli and Townsend should never be in the same team? They both cut inside far too often, leaving us exposed on the flanks and giving less space to the strikers or the runners from midfield.
