So they're annihilating us down their right (our left), because Ozil isn't tracking back and they're double teaming Monreal,so what does Wenger do? Take off Ox who's been offering solid cover on the right, and leave Ozil on. Because of this, we lose 2-0. How can such an experienced manager be so naive tactically?
Would have liked to have seen Rosicky on the left, but as pointed out on the match thread, Ozil still offered some of our best chances, so you can see why Wenger left him on.
Disagree mate, Ox was far more threatening than Ozil, you could see Bayern's CB's were worried about Ox's pace, plus Ox actually tracks back and works hard for the team, anyone could have seen today that leaving Ozil on was a seriously amateurish move on Wenger's part.
I would have subbed him for Rosicky, but at that stage in the game you can see why he left him on. Ox was getting no runs on the right and Ozil was the only one likely to create a chance. Also Bayern's second goal was down to a combination of Kos being out of position as well as a great run that took Mert out of the game. There were lots reasons why we lost this game, most of them being down to Bayern being a class outfit. This thread is a bit of a cheap shot at Wenger imo.
I would have taken Sanogo off for rosicky and played him on the left. I would have played Ozil as the most advanced Arsenal player!!
At 10 men, I would've taken either Ozil-Wilshere off for Rosicky, but if OXO was carrying a knock, then Wenger didn't have much of a choice. I think Wilshere made only 1 successful pass in the 2nd half.
Absolutely right!! Unfortunately, that was Wenger's second tactical error! His first was playing Sanogo instead of Podolski! apart from playing for 9 minutes against Fulham last year, this inexperienced 21 year old's only start was against Liverpool. OK, so he had a good game then, but experience at the highest level? That one appearance was, apparently, enough for Wenger to ignore the vastly experienced Podolski, and that was a bad error.
Podolski as our lone striker is terrible. I love him, how can you not, but he's no good at leading the line by himself. Christ. He can't win. Brings one ineffective wide player off in preference to another ineffective wide player and you whinge. He says it's because player A is injured and he's lying. Where you get this info from is a mystery but I'm jealous. I just have to rely on what Arsenal tell me.
Wenger is tactically a dinosaur. The guy sticks to his philosophy like a ****ing creationist. It drives me insaine... He makes the same substitutions regardless of the opposition or situation. For examples last night it was clear Ozil was uncomfortable when moved to the left.. why keep him there? How many goals does Podolski have to score to get a game? But yes the worst decision was OXO.. our only chance was playing on the break and he took off our one outlet.
You do all realise that Wenger is the only Arsenal manager since the war who has had you in the top five more than 4 seasons running. As a Spurs fan I can't wait to see the back of him!
Wenger, for all his qualities, and there are many, has never been a tactically astute manager. He sticks rigidly to his principal of setting up Arsenal to play "the Arsenal way" and it is for the opposition to come & beat them. While this is admirable, it is extremely frustrating at times!
