Draw for Euro 2016 takes place on Sunday. Myler, Long & Quinn in Martin O'Neil's squad for Dublin friendly v Serbia 5 March. Good news but just three days before QF weekend
Good news. You reckon they'll all start? It's a dodgy friendly, but they're only travelling to Dublin. Long can't play in the cup anyway.
Qualification has been made much easier now that 24 teams go to the Euros. Really, that means even if you get another big team in your group you'll probably still definitely qualify.
It will devalue the qualifying games - I can see some of the better countries resting key players at the behest of their clubs. It will mean the top 2 of each group will qualify and then the third placed teams going into the play-offs. It's another UEFA -uck up
Qualification really should be pretty easy for the big nations... Pot 1: Spain (holders), Germany, Netherlands, Italy, England, Portugal, Greece, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina Pot 2: Ukraine, Croatia, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Republic of Ireland Pot 3: Serbia, Turkey, Slovenia, Israel, Norway, Slovakia, Romania, Austria, Poland Pot 4: Montenegro, Armenia, Scotland, Finland, Latvia, Wales, Bulgaria, Estonia, Belarus Pot 5: Iceland, Northern Ireland, Albania, Lithuania, Moldova, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Cyprus Pot 6: Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, Faroe Islands, Malta, Andorra, San Marino, Gibraltar (Countries I'd like to avoid in bold; favourable ones in italics.)
England Sweden Norway Scotland Iceland Gibraltar Could be a fun group from my perspective We are defintely gonna meet you either in the qualification or group stage Potential nightmare for you guys England Belgium Serbia Montenegro Macedonia Kazakhstan
It is a potential nightmare, but incredibly unlikely. Also, the fact that the top 2 in all groups will go through and third will be playoffs (unless it is the best third placed team, who qualify automatically) make it a lot less threatening.
Looks a good group, actually. I'd like to see something like that Meh. Only Belgium who are any good. The only drawback would be the travel, but then that shouldn't be too much of a problem as half of our squad travel from Kinshasa and Abuja anyway.
Sunderland will have the same prob surely? Someone will name them! that's if we beat Brighton of course!
