Number 1 is easy: 4 league titles, 6 FA Cups and 1 FIFA sanctioned European trophy (the same one that clubs such as Barcelona list as one of their major trophies - or in their case 2 trophies).

Number 2 you will need to reword in a way that makes more sense as I have no idea what you are asking there.

At no point did I say league titles were insignificant (I used the smallest words possible so I really hoped you'd be able to understand). League titles are the most prestigious of the major honours available domestically. They are not the only honours however, as I am sure Sunderland fans appreciate this season.

When you go to watch NUFC play at St James Park these are football league games to decide the best team in the league, how many of these football league games do you watch? FA cup games are a competition arranged by the Football association each year the winner of which receives a cup how many of these games do you watch? There are also other games that are played in Europe which are sanctioned by FIFA how many of these games do you watch ? from your answers I will be able to tell what you attach the most importance to and consequently the ones that you deem the most prestigious and therefore decide which team has had the most success over the years

I will give you Newcastles record in the FA Cup was obtained at a time when that competition was MORE prestigious than the league title hard for your generation to grasp but never the less true cup fever was something that could never be emulated in a league game anywhere

99% of Sunderland supporters are sweating on only one outcome the other two are nothing more than "It would be nice"

Sorry but it is bugging me, is it just the present generation and the education system in place but I have travelled in a lot of countries in the world where I spoke and understood very little of the language and yet NEVER was I not able to understand or make myself understood until I chanced upon the NUFC forum, if I miss out a full stop or a comma it leads to serious trauma and an inability to understand a point, this is what separates us from animals our brain is supposed to be highly developed to a level that even if we are not given all of the information we should be able to piece together what we are given and come up with a solution, how do you manage when you go on holiday to a country that does not speak English it must be a nightmare

It was the details and point of what you were asking, rather than the language, that I didn't understand. For a start, I don't understand where the number of games I watch reflects on the importance of a competition - even the importance I attach to it. Its a very arbitrary way of looking at something and one that is inherently flawed. It fails to take account of the number of matches available to watch in each competition, the availability of tickets, or even my own availability of time or money - or lack of it!.

Therefore, whatever my answer, you will not be able to tell me anything of the importance I attach to any competition. You'll be able to tell me only what I was able to tell you - how many games I was able to watch.

For what it is worth, in the last two years I have been to four football matches at St. Jaames' Park. One of them was an Olympics match between Brazil and Honduras. The other three were Europa League games. I was able to attend all four games because my family gave me money specifically for attending a football match. Normally I am unable to spend money on football as my priority is paying off debts from the time that I was self-employed (not that I see what that tells you about my love of football or Newcastle United). My family know how special the European games have always been to me, seeing as the first games that I was physically at were the Fairs Cup games in the year that we won it, including the first leg of the final.

MY GENERATION, is one that valued the FA Cup over all other games in the season, and the FA CUP final was the most important game of the season. I have sadly watched Newcastle in three finals and I am yet to see us win one. That doesn't diminish the importance of that competition to me.

None of the above information tells you anything about which competition I value most. Nor does it change the fact that we have won eleven major trophies, that we have been runners up in ten, that we have by far the best European record or more importantly, that they are the best club because they are MY club!

My mistake was thinking of you as an average NUFC which you will admit you are anything but, If I am going to evaluate something of course I need some statistics to point to which was the reason for questions to you, I reiterate my previous comments that the average supporter in England and Wales hopes that their team will be successful in the premiere league this is born out by the attendances it is the standard that everyone judges their team by and the reason for my view that Sunderland over the years have had more success, with success in the premiere league of course there are spinoffs to different competitions and any competition that your/my team plays in is of course important but not the overriding factor when the season kicks off

PS. I do admire your passion for your team that outlook will stand you in good stead for what life will throw at you, but would like to see you lighten up a little.

<laugh> My doc would like to see me lighten up a little too - she reckons my weight is affecting my high blood pressure. It's a forum and I know you can take it - and give it!

The league is the bread and butter. It is the most important, but I don't agree with others who value it above all else. Football is about winning trophies. That is why I will see Sunderland as having bragging rights this season, no matter what the league positions, if they win a cup. Not everyone agrees, but that's how I see it.

As for my passion preparing me for life - can I go back in time 40 years and take these lessons with me? Might not make the same mistakes next time around!

Now....off to the docs again for another lecture on lightening up!!
