Agree jack,This shows that fans like him and roof really don't have the slightest clue how a football club is run.. I could give them a few pointers and facts but it would go right over their head im afraid so i wont waste my time,,
Much appreciated Dai!.................... An awful lot of handbags on this thread girls?....................
I'm convinced you don't even have a clou how to put on your pants, boil an egg and much less how a football club is run. I get tics from reading your posts and I really can't understand how you can stand yourself...
Im not really worried about any of monk's decisions because I think he will be just doing what the board want while we wait for a new manager then he will step fully into his new role. I hate not going for the win in any matches but hopefully the rested players will be up for a few tough games back to back now, Napoli and Liverpool deserve our best fit players to play.
With all due respect, he said things would go tits up under ML and was ridiculed by all here over it during the past 12 months.
Agree with both valley and Kieran. Regarding Dai, I myself disagreed with him a couple of times on Laudrup and I admit defeat, give him my dues and respect and carry on. Any kind of positivity towards Swansea these days is met with accusations of blind fandom which is mental.
With all due respect Valley how do you come to the conclusion that Dai was right and things went tits up under Michael Laudrup? When he left; - we were in 12th place (with injured key players returning and an easing fixture list) - still in the FA Cup, doing better than we had done for years...with a shot at a QF which we have subsequently chucked away. - in the last 32 of the Europa with a glamour tie vs Napoli on the horizon. (All of the above achieved with a crippling injury list...chuck in some landmark results along the way. First ever victory at Old Trafford...thumping Valencia 3-0 on their patch. - A squad of players who are worth a lot more than what we paid for them. Shall we list them? Wilfried Bony - paid £12m - now worth £20m+ - likely profit £8m+ Michu - paid £2m - now worth £20m + - likely profit £18m + Pozuelo - paid £500k ish - now worth at least £2.5m - likely profit £2m+ Jordi Amat - paid £2.5m - now worth £4m + - likely profit £1.5m + Jose Canas - free (signing on fee probably a £1m or so) - now worth £3m+ - likely profit £2m+ Chico Flores - paid £2.2m - now worth £5m + - Likely profit £3m + Hernandez and Shelvey's value is at least static also.....and let's not forget our young Welsh left-back who is apparently attracting a lot of interest was given his break and stuck by (despite being so raw and making a shed load of defensive mistakes) by Laudrup. He has probably improved the value of our squad, by his transfer business alone by approx. £40m. Hardly tits up is it. ....but then some seem to want to focus on rumours and repeat untruths like 'Under Laudrup we couldn't even pass anymore etc.' (by the way, we dominated possession in just about every game this season, breaking some records along the way....it was always about the final pass/cross).
True Terror, the only thing that they can use agianst Laudrup, that actually has an ounce of truth is that the players did lack that commitment, we could all see it, but to sack him was not the right call for me, Monk could have got the commitment up by just becomming a member of the training staff, he didn't need to become the manager to do it. Then the other questions then land solely on monks and Ash's feet, as Club and Team captain, why couldn't they motivate the players? Everything else is horseshit, we know, they know it, they just won't stop using it. This club is much better off thanks to what that man did for us, but like fans all over the place, they are so fickle and soon like to stick the knife in when things go a little bit sour.
Here's something that is from the horse's mouth as opposed to it's rear end Swanse'.... Years ago, in the Kenny Jackett era I overheard Jenkins talking to a fellow board member over a pint or a dozen. He was making fun of the modern obsession with a coach for this and that...his exact words were "Why do the players need someone to hold their hand for them when they go for a run..." He went on to say lot's of other disparaging things about players and their lack of personal responsibility. We know that Laudrup had coaches taking training sessions. One of them at least was his right-hand man who no doubt had detailed instructions of what Laudrup wanted the squad to work on regarding technique and tactics. It's called delegation. What does it matter if Laudrup wasn't there everyday? Do the players need their hands held? Like you say Swanselona, what is the point of having 2 captains if they can't get their peers up for it? What is this **** about not being fit being Laudrup's fault. Get down the gym go for an extra run! like you say Swanselona if Monk and co. had a problem with this appointing Monk as a first team coach with fitness and defence being his responsibilities would have sufficed. What I want to know is when did Jenkins and the others start taking what players said seriously? Having read extracts from Monk's book on Paulo Sousa I'm getting a sense of deja vu and that troubles me. Ok so Monk seems to have laid down the law regarding the tackling, we can all see that....that was never the big problem though was it? The big problems were; - lack of height and ball watching at the back...add in lapses of concentration on the ball at the back. - problems in the final third regarding the final pass, crossing and actually taking the shot when it's on. The answer to all of these problems (barr the lack of height...recruitment problem that) lie with the players...either lacking quality or confidence or both. The truth is we were well in every game this season thanks to the possession and the tactics. We were let down with defensive lapses and not scoring when we were on top. During Laudrup's reign the only times we got played off the park was when he stuck the reserves out at Anfield (pre-cup final) and early on against Eveton at the Liberty...a game in which he learned that Alan Tate was a League 1 player at best, yet Tate chose to slag off his team mates in the post and was thankfully packed off by Laudrup ever since. Player power I don't like.
We were in a relegation scrap at the time of Laudrup sacked. We were clueless, lethargic, non committed, couldn't keep the ball as good as we used to, weren't creating enough clear chances, coupled with various stories that things behind the scenes were in tatters, none of which have been denied by Laudrup or the club. Laudrup has even looked disinterested for a number of months on the touch line and in press conferences and I believe that under Laudrup we would have picked up only one point from the past two games, thus putting us in real trouble. Some are making out about injured players returning, we have been poor all season, bar the odd game here and there and 36 points in 38 games suggest to me that Laudrup couldn't turn things around, and given the way they played under Monk, including MLs signings, it's apparent to me that he had lost the dressing room and had to go as we look completely different under Monk. If anyone disagrees with that, compare the two Cardiff performances. The improvement is incredible. The same with West Ham and Stoke. Two similarly built teams, compare the performances
Cardiff put all behind the ball in the first game under Laudrup and harried us for 90 mins Mackay style. They didn't create anything and scored from a set piece after Shelvey came off his post. There was no evidence that they were capable of giving us a proper game, they were just fortunate. In the return under Monk they had a new manager who had promised attacking football on his appointment, they also needed the 3 points because they were in the relegation spots with games running out. We were also at home. 2 completely different scenarios. We'll never know if we would have won under Laudrup...the bookies had us as firm favourites though. We were odds on and Cardiff were 3/1. I don't buy that we would have lost under Laudrup. Stoke in the 1st half of season. We absolutely tore them a new one. They scored with their only 2 shots on goal in the first half. At least 1 of which was terrible defending by us....but we had all the ball and were probing with no end product. 2nd half we battered them like we were a top, top team. Stoke managed 1 shot from distance, they simply didn't have the ball. Only the referee's intervention gave them a point. This was under Laudrup, remember....we couldn't pass, we were relegation fodder down to him etc. We played similarly away at Southampton but lost as they took their few chances and we missed tonnes of ours. I see no reason why Laudrup couldn't have achieved at least a point away at Stoke. We'll never know, your assertion that we have collected more points due to Monk is just an assumption. West Ham games were both under Laudrup. 1st game at the Liberty they tried to kill the game with 6 in midfield and 0 up front, they had just beaten Spurs playing this way at White Hart Lane (Spirs had just made their best ever start to the season). It was a tough fixture. We had more of the play and chances to win it they were predictably a threat at the set piece. Result 0-0. 2nd game. Again they mainly set out to stop us but this time they had Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan in the first XI. They beat us, their strengths are in areas that our Achilles heel. We performed poorly. I think this was because we had players still re-integrating after long term injuries and because we were facing a physical team well schooled in defending and set pieces who are in a dogfight. They had just come off achieving a 0-0 at Chelsea. It is doubtful that Monk would have achieved a different result in these circumstances IMO. Some think it's because Leon wasn't on the pitch and the players' "lack of commitment". Leon and Amat scenario was a tactical gamble that didn't come off...but at least Laudrup was aware of the aerial threat and tried to remedy it. He said himself that he was disappointed that they had worked all week on the threat from Carroll and Nolan and yet the players spectacularly failed. The commitment thing for me is the players responsibility also. If they are trying harder for Monk they should be ashamed of themselves.
I am staggered that there are still arguements. ML did fantastic for this club and i must admit i really enjoyed his first season in charge. I have to say this season has been and made for difficult watching. Not really enjoying much about a lot of our performances. it started to feel a little like it was under Sousa. Our second top scorer is OG and a distinct lack of passion being showed by both the playing staff and off field staff. I wonder how much of this was down to the fact that ML was due to leave at the end of the season. They no longer had to try to impress him. If we went down most would be pinched by either other PL clubs or La Ligue clubs. However, I still believe that ML would probably have kept us up. JUST though. My and your club has decided to make a change. Looking at our results and performances I can understand why. Whether you or any other true supporter agree with it is another matter, but they are there to run our club in the best way they see fit. So they choose GM and so far I feel he hasnt done a bad job. (for me a bit more passion and width). Yes he is in the honeymoon period and as far as i am concerned his job starts at Liverpool away. Will we stay up under him. I believe so. I just think we all need to move on. put all our support behind the club, the new manager and the players. This wont be the last time the board will make a decision that some will agree with and some will disagree with. But whether we like it or not this is what we have and we should just get behind the team.
Agreed. It's done and the only commenting left to do is if/when the actual reason for the sacking is revealed. Some speculation is fun and healthy, initially, but it gets very tedious when going around and around in circles, endlessly. Some people appear to me to have formed "camps". I was for Monk replacing Laudrup but I am in neither "camp". Monk will be judged just like any other manager. It's a great shame that ML's tenure ended in sacking but it's now history.
Agreed. and my final word on the matter is; Roy Keane (if you don't know him : he's the bitter and twisted failed football manager who is now a football pundit looking to be different by pretending to'tell it as it is ') ; is an ARSE
Hey, Nottage, you're a braver man than I am if you dared to say that to his face. Do you remember the tv reporter who asked him some questions he didn't like when Keane was manager, at Ipswich I think it was? Keane gave him a look and I thought the reporter was going to **** himself.
that's his whole schtick though isn't it, the faux hard-man act. Look at his red cards against Shearer and Haaland for example. Stupid and cowardly, nothing tough about them at all. Great player but staring down journalists and being bitter and hypocritical makes himself sound more and more stupid every time I see him complaining on tv.
