  2. I'd put him on the "likely to leave" list if they don't get back in the CL next season.

look at rooneys record and say if its worth 300k per week. if this was utd with lots of options (when they last won the CL) he'd have been flogged.

i think ferguson would have flogged him but he seemed to manage utd down to the point where rooney was it.

i mean look at his league record there are two good seasons in it

    2004-05 29 11
    2005–06 36 16
    2006–07 35 14
    2007–08 27 12
    2008–09 30 12
    2009–10 32 26
    2010–11 28 11
    2011–12 34 27
    2012–13 27 12
    2013–14 20 9

now on its face those are not good numbers but if you said... all compes it only tops 20 twice more but those good easons with fa cup and europe etc jump to 34.

    so... 300k per week?

most of this career he's been a 15 goal man... in the league and if he'd not been playing for utd getting lots of extra games v crap in europe (compared again to utd) he'd be just that 10-15 goals..

Its not the assists... its the hot and cold nature of him, its the throwing a hissy fit when stuck out wide cos he's playing badly etc etc...

i just feel the guys hit his prime already. i can see him becoming a very expensive midfielders in his 30s and if you asked any utd fan... even UIR they might admit that while paul scholes was hugely valued he was never a 300k per week top paid player.

You need to consider the role hes played in each season as well as his age early on. During his time here hes had one of the leagues best goal scorers alongside him. Ruud, Ronaldo and van Persie. When rooney himself has been the main goalscorer hes matched each of these for goals. Stick him up top in every game and he'll get you plenty of goals.

Hes set to become our top scoring player. Ever.

Because he signed for Utd when 18 and has been taking penalties most of the time since.

He is your best player and you can't afford to lose him but the £100m price you'll pay is way too steep and another result of Moyes' terrible start.

    Good times.

It really does appear a desperate move by United to make such an OTT offer. It doesn't indicate that they are a very rich club, rather it smacks of a recognition that they are now not able to make good strategic decisions.

On face value it is more likely to cause discontent in the dressing room than to act as a spur to the other players. It may also act as a very costly problem when United try and tempt 'star' players.

All depends how long he is with us Dave, it just holds his sale price if we intend to off load in the summer.

  8. Disagree with that, they've just signed their best player in January. Its yet to be seen how Moyes will stifle him though :)

He's already achieved that, Mata has zero goals, a 25% win record (and no win in the last 3) and was subbed for an 18 year old in his last appearance

Who is gonna buy him though? Chelsea are the only ones with money that seem interested and you wouldn't want to sell to your potential rivals next season. Plus as someone has already said, you're already narrowing the market massively by making his wages so high. Only a select few clubs can afford the wages he'll be on. And then you consider how many of them need a striker, not exactly good selling conditions.

Gutted Brighton conceded in last 5 mins against Hull in Fa cup tonight.

They dominated and deserved to go through to QF against Sunderland and Poyet and would have fancied them to go through to the semis.

Instead they have to go through a replay at Hull next week.

Look at players reported headline wages (most clubs) and then look at the clubs financial reports and you will see that reported wages do not correspond with actual wages. Newspapers have to sell somehow, do you know anyone who still buys one?

    Yes...

My wife... but only for the coupon section- she tosses the actual newspaper away without reading it.

I used to read newspapers when I was staying in hotels... but now hotels have stopped providing newspapers... batards.

milk you get actual deals in the us over here you don't get **** in newspapers.

whenever i go to us is get usa today in mine... you must slum it <ok>

the point however is well made. there was a race to the bottom with pricing of newspapers... predicated perhaps on advertising revenue and property supplements etc. now... nah... so the papers all do better online efforts than they do papers. guardian for example... we shall not speak of other rags.

however.... this is just not going to sustain. you cannot have online only with tablet viewing only or something. is it the content people really want. especially the 20 somethings on the way up.

anyway re rooney. paying him 300k per week means only city can afford him. even chavski will baulk at that so frankly wayne will slob around cos there is no way anyone leaves for 100k per week less or whatever.

Rooney is a really good player. He is a bit of a tit from the seems of it [but who wouldn't be considering the life he has had] but he is a very good player. Posting his goal numbers is a bit silly as he usually chips in with the same amount of assists each season as well.

    Prem Stats
    2013/14 - 9G/9A
2012/13 - 12/10 [RVP arrives, played all over the place again]
    2011/12 - 27/4 [main man]
2010/11 - 11/11 [played in CM for several games + injured toward the end of the season]
2009/10 - 26/3 [ronaldo leaves, plays as the main main]
    2008/09 - 12/07 [ronaldo season]
    2007/08 - 12/13 [ronaldo season]
    2006/07 - 14/11
    2005/06 - 16/10
    2004/05 - 11/4

The fact remains that despite being played on the flanks, midfield, up front, no10 he always produces.

Though he isn't worth 300k a week he also isn't a rubbish player. He is a brilliant player who once he retires people will start to realise how good he was.

gerrard has how many assists? yet is written off as finished? just saying...

2009/10 was rooneys best year for me. he was impressive, in the box heading goals. got 34 all games. 26 in league.

I think we should not and cannot excuse loss of form and injury etc he's constantly up and down. he'll hit a hot streak and the's lauded for it will score in 7 or 8 games then vanish for the same amount. when he's hot he's really hot and frankly i try to put him into FF team when he might be going on a run but i can tell you he's first out of my team every time.

the fact is diego "played all over the place" = filling in or being shunted left cos someone else is in better form. I have seen him sulk and go mad at ferguson for sticking him wide and ferguson frankly mad at him for not going and doing the job asked.

its yes a consistent level of goal... for the top team in england over his career. so he's had dominant teams behind him, at old toilet teams didn't show up.. the number is 15 on average with two great years in there.

Have a great year and great your worth it. hand in the 15 goals as he's done over 80% of his career and suddenly... 300k per week for 15 goals and a few assists... plus taking pens and frees... not so good.

But mourinho either felt he could destroy utd with it or he felt he could get a lot more out of him. who knows...

but the one thing for sure is now every utd player entering contract talks will want massive wage hike.. its only natural.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claims Manchester City will face "the worst Barcelona of many, many years" in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Looks like he joined the wrong team in blue, he's so #bitter

A front three of Neymar-Messi-Sanchez is terrifying.

    Will never beat Ronaldinho-Eto'o-Henry through.

This Barca team is coasting in the league at the moment, I think Man City can find them out.

  19. NMS is more fluid than the REH trio. Only true way to judge it though is once NMS move on / retire as the judgement is biased diue to one have three legendary names.

REH... c'mon guys pedro messi and anyone was more frightening.

messi is barca, everything is around him. the issue they actually have is the aging midfield and creaking defense.
