Clearly he did not say City are bigger than United, they clearly aren't. They are currently better though and are heading in the right direction. Remains to be seen what effect FFP will have (if any) as creative accountings should only get you so far.
With reports liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have said they will fight citys inclusion to the champions league and united being long time advocates of ffp city are seemingly playing for nothing right now. Chances of champions league qualificatipn seem unlikely right now as the Fa, uefa and fifa wouldn't want to upset the 4 big English clubs.
They are now, they needed to win the CL and the PL to offset some ££££. CL is gone, PL not enough. Mind you, a few handy sponsorship deals, like say renaming your training ground Adding a logo to your training kit for example might do it for them, I reckon they currently know exactly where they stand. CL qualification is a critical aspect of balancing the books, I get the feeling they aren't just plodding along hoping things will work out mate, I really doubt that and of course you conveniently forget how corrupt UEFA are when it suits your argument.
Pellegrini is just trying to ape SAF's 'noisy neighbours' comments and other pops we've had at City over the past few decades. He hasn't said bigger, or better, he's said this season there is only one club in Manchester. Simple playing to the crowd, just like Dzeko (IIRC) with his 'Manchester United is not really in Manchester' comment when he joined. I wouldn't bother getting too hung up on it. Tho' it's probably worth mentioning that if SAF or anyone connected with Utd had ever said we were the only club in Manchester they'd have been accused of arrogance, disrespect, and all the usual. Interesting to see the double standards at work, eh? Tho' I suppose the smaller clubs can get away with that sort of thing
