Not really Saints news, but just seen this news.

Preston legend and the oldest living England international has died, aged 91.

    May he rest in peace.

I have a couple of friends who are big Preston fans so I'll be sending my condolences to them ASAP.

RIP. The Finney splash remains an iconic photo.

Arguably one of the best players who ever lived. When I was very young I 'd occasionally hear people talk about Stan Matthews, Tom Finney, etc.., and they were the football greats at the time. Matthews was the big star, especially because of his sheer longevity, but I never realised how great a footballer Finney was until just a few years ago. Then I saw some footage of his ability, and even in the heavyweight kit of boots, thick socks and shinpads one could see the lightness of touch and the control and tricks to drift past defenders. The man would have not looked a jot out of place in today's era. A true great.

What a sad day. The Preston Plumber always came across as a real gentleman and an iconic figure in English football.

    RIP

He played a match for Saints in 1942 against Arsenal before his Preston career began.

RIP Tom, a true legend of the game.

A minute of silence will be observed and black armbands will be worn in today's games to pay respect to Sir Tom Finney.

All of Preston's players will be wearing "Finney" on their shirts in their game at Deepdale against Leyton Orient this afternoon. Lovely touch, and as someone on 5 Live said, it could be the first time ever that Tom Finney's name goes in the book!

Nice touch by Preston, i love the water-feature statue.

Its a shame that there are not more videos of players from that era. I think people would be surprised at the skill levels on show as well as it putting into perspective the issue of wages today.

Imagine Tiss turning up to fix your boiler!
