Wayne Rooney is expected to sign a new five-and-a-half year contract with Manchester United in the next 48 to 72 hours.
imo i believe they will give him this pay rise to increase his sell on value,i think he will go to chelsea in the summer.he as been a great player for united but with the addition of mata ,there isnt enough room upfront to keep accomodating him,if we are to build a newer fresher team.i think the only reason we got mata from chelsea was bit of behind the scenes bargaining for this summers move to chelsea?i think we need to look at a bigger picture, including newer players.rooney as been the head of united for about 3 seasons now.but sadly i think its time for a fresh start.and i think moyes and the board know that? just an opinion.
Can't see Rooney leaving in the summer if he signs a new deal now. Looks like he's played you lot again. He looks thick but he certainly knows how to get a mega new contract / pay rise.
To be perfectly honest, who can blame him. He knows his value to the club, particularly in our current position and considering the money the club will make from having Rooney at United, I don't blame him one bit. I don't like it but I don't blame him either.
I'd blame the (by his standards) poor performances last season that have suddenly elevated when Chelsea are sniffing around and he wants a bumper new deal. But you are right, he is looking pretty vital now to United trying to get back amongst it. Just seems odd that you spent so much on Mata to then play him out of his best position to accommodate Rooney who now appears to be staying. That's 5 players you have now whose best position is off the striker, yet there are so many other pressing areas of the pitch that need addressing. He'll be playing Fellaini and Janujaz at full back at this rate!
Mata is a quality signing but I'm not convinced he is what we needed so I'd agree with you there. Particularly seeming as Moyes doesn't look like he's got a clue on how to use him.
Just to compare.. Bale is on 300k and has done the sum total of nothing for any club hes played for. Rooney has been essential to united, the second most successful club in world football since he joined. Plus footballs a multi billion pound industry with a relatively low number of employees. Makes sense they get paid loads. Im more Pissed off with people who win on deal or no deal or win the lottory than I am with what footballers earn.
As was the case with Fellaini I think they were cases of players you could get rather than the ones you really wanted. You can never have too many good players but a little like us this season, balance is key. We bought about 50 attacking mids when we badly needed a striker and it may well cost us the title over 38 games.
Bit harsh! Bale can't help being at only the 3rd best club in London for most of his career so far. He'll certainly win things now he's at Madrid. And frankly you can't compare finances with Madrid cos they are on another planet. You've had to pay Rooney so much because of what it would cost to replace him. No one else outside maybe a Quatar/Russian club would pay him anywhere near that in wages.
We certainly can compare finances. Bale wont be the chap leading Madrid to titles and such. Infact he will end up sold pretty soon imo and for a fraction of what they paid.
I don't begrudge his salary either. people get what employers are willing to pay them. The City (bankers not the ££££ down the road) pay their staff millions. And if the Gs are willing to pay Rooney that to stay at United, we should be relieved. It is the ****ing money they have stolen anyway... I am sure there are some people out there who "are pissed off" by people getting some good fortune...
