"Wayne Rooney is expected to sign a new five-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester United this week that will increase his wages to about £300,000 per week." I don't care how good he is, this is obscene.
It's a market. Unfortunately one that ignores the rules of other markets, ****ed up as they are. I would love to see the calculations that the Glaziers have made to convince themselves that this is good business. Presumably the assumption is that he will lead then to Champions League glory for the next 5 years in a row. Ahem.
Just working out some maths SB. If you and me have posted on this thread and Flyer is ignoring us both does that mean he is looking at this thread now and only seeing one response Just wondering like
Oh how the mighty have fallen. The beginning of the end. First Moyes now this obscenely ridicoulus contract to Rooney. Love it!
Lets us three keep posting on this one so it runs to pages. He'll be wondering what the hell's going on
Never been a Rooney fan TBh I accept that hes a good player but certainly dont buy into the hype about him being "that" good. But if someone offers you that much why would you not say yes...Good luck to him
mental money but how many on here buy tickets to watch the directors and owners eat prawn sandwiches if the money from tv etc was not going to the players it would be going to the directors
But if they lost him what message would that give to the rest of the squad and any players they are trying to sign? They are stuck between a rock and a hard place, not that I have any sympathy for them. As an aside, does anyone have any idea hat they make out of Rooney Shirt sales? I'm sure I read that Real Madrid recouped their Beckham transfer fee in the first weekend with shirt sales in the Far East.
Rooney is a fantastic player and one of very few top strikers in the world who actually run back and help the defenders and midfield. Still that kind of money is too much for everybody but hey if someone pays it so.....
Welcome, you must be the first Lincoln City FC supporter we have had on here. Of course he isn't suggesting that, Junior WUM.
I wouldnt have him you've prob not been to our ground so just for you. We only have a very small Pie Van outside......Wouldnt last 5 minutes if Shrek came to us
that wasn't a wum, far from it. he would be first choice in almost every premier team. just wanted to quantify Strollers statement that "he's not even very good " . if only i supported the mighty imps i can but dream not very good compared to Messi is a lot different to not very good compared to me a bloke who hasn't played since leaving school years with the physique of Jan Molby.
Whilst it may be obscene it is as alluded to above, a free market. Much like the Cesar fiasco, it takes 2 sides to agree a contract. If I was offered that sort of dough I would hardly try and negotiate it downwards. Nor I suspect would many around here Its an entertainment business and much like film stars / pop stars etc footballers are in the same category. Football sold its soul to Sky / TV money and there really is no way back. Look at how Rugby Union's hamfisted attempts to emulate it are wrecking the game
Queenie I have been to your ground a couple of times, living in the south east, try to make as many london games as poss
