GUS POYET says any Premier League manager would be happy to have Fabio Borini in their starting XI.

Poyet decided to sacrifice Borini in Saturday’s defeat to Hull City after Wes Brown’s fourth minute dismissal prompted the Sunderland boss to remove the Italian to bring on centre-half Santiago Vergini.

But the Uruguayan has been hugely impressed by Borini since finding a regular place in the starting XI for the on-loan Liverpool forward last November.

And Poyet believes that Borini, who is expected to return to Anfield in the summer, would catch the eye of any top flight manager, given the 22-year-old’s attitude and work-rate.

Poyet told the Echo: “What a good character Fabio is.

“He’s a character that any manager would like to have in his team.

“At the beginning, I remember when I played him and then I couldn’t play him.

“I didn’t have words to explain why he wasn’t playing.

“But he’s a very special character that would be in any XI in any team.”

Borini was sent out on loan by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers in the summer after being hampered by injuries at Liverpool following a £10.5million move from Roma.

But gradually the Italian international has rediscovered his form at the Stadium of Light and become a firm favourite on the terraces.

He will hope for a longer opportunity to impress in tomorrow’s trip to Manchester City after being limited to just 12 minutes against Hull.

That prevented Borini building on a superb performance in the Tyne-Wear derby when he netted his fifth of the season from the penalty spot.

“Mama-mia, he had an unbelievable game the other day in the derby,” added Poyet.

“He fights to take penalties and the runs he was making on (Mathieu) Debuchy (Newcastle right-back) were amazing.

“He was really a top performer and he’s always ready to play, ready to train.

“If he’s got some pain, he doesn’t care, he just wants to play and score goals.”

25 appearances for Sunderland, 5 goals. A couple of penalties. That's not great unfortunately.

It goes down as an assist but only because it was a crazy goal.

Suso looks so much quicker, more confident and more daring. He gave the ball awy a little to much but I like that his developing the confidence to try pick out those big passes.

I thought they were crap highlights tbh. Muscled off the ball, simple passes and not much movement.
Having said that, I know he is doing well there. Just looks a world apart to the player Coutinho is, who is only a year older.

I think he will turn in to a different kind of player to Coutinho. I think his future is on the wing cutting inside. Like Samir Nasri.

I like Borini, may never be prolific but he's only 22 so still very young. He has good attributes but think he needs to find a position. Is he someone that will play on wing as part of a front 3 or as the main man?

    Left side forwarded I say.

That is where he is doing well for Sunderland.

That is where he played and did really well for Roma.

He also looked good there at the end of last season.

Forget Suso's assist yesterday! Check out this one from Tiago Ilori on loan at Granada. This is serious top quality.

The video in the link is better than the youtube.

    Here is Ilori's Granada debut.

I think he looks generally good. He conceded a penalty but that was missed so he turned out to be a hero for it.

Don't think it was him that gave away the penalty, think it was the guy that played everyone onside by about 10 yards and then pretty much caught the ball while laying on the floor <laugh> Ilori's tackle was actually clean and won the ball.

He certainly looks comfortable on the ball which I guess it what BR saw in him initially and he has the stature to be a good CB. Quick, tall, seems decent enough in the air. Just needs a couple of years of regular football before coming back to us and pushing for a first team spot.

  14. Was he playing RB or had he just drifted?

In the assist video? CB, you can see the RB on the touchline.

Liverpool midfielder Conor Coady extends his loan spell at Sheffield United until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old signed a six-month loan deal with the Blades last summer and has scored four goals in 32 games for the League One side.

Borini - the scorer of important goals?

    Winner for Sunderland against Newcastle.

Equaliser in last minute against Chelsea in the Carling Cup to take it to extra time.

Penalty against United in the Carling Cup to put them into a crucial lead.

Goal against City in the cup final.

Becoming more and more like Dirk Kuyt. Be very glad to get him back into the squad next season <ok>

All for loaning players out to get them playing at a higher more consistant level than the youth teams.

But FFS bring Ibe back from Birmingham before they kill the player. He is getting left on the bench constantly whilst their **** players play **** negative football and he doesnt get a look in.

Bring him home and loan him out to someone who will use his talents

Ibe has gotten himself a goal for Birminham this evening.

Good to see him score, was getting disheartened that he wasnt having the impact he could
