The most popular name amongst the mancs to take over when the old soak retires is jose mourhino. Take a look at his stats on length of time at any particular club, his poor record on bringing youth through etc,hes never at a club long enough to build a youth programme. From an outside view it looks like ferguson is building a young tried and trusted team(squad)that he can leave for his successor. unless his successor is one of his former players thats either currently in or in the process of learning management hes wasting his time.
I was gonna say something like this. MU have the luxury of being able to prepare/look at their next manager long (many seasons) before he'll even take over. SAF will retire, unless next season goes absolutely down the sh*tter, which I doubt, meaning it won't be a case of a sudden sacking or end of season switch-over where you have a limited amount of time to slot in a replacement and may not do as much research as you'd like. Sure, most clubs keep tabs on other managers just in case, but rarely do they know for sure when they'll definitely need a new one.
Do you really think leaving a yound tried and tested squad would be a waste of time. One of your fans posted earlier in the week about new managers making changes - when a new manager comes in they make 2 or 3 changes tops particularly if the team is successful prior to their arrival. I just don't see how building such a squad like you said would be a waste of time
Man United fans being selective when it comes to trophies.Like it or not major honours are major honours. And Liverpool are still ahead 40 to Man Uniteds 38. Was the league cup a ''mickey mouse trophy'' when you didn't win it this year.Talking about ''promoting from within''.Theres two ways of doing it.One is having an experienced coaching staff to help a young manager.Man United don't have that. Then there is someone serving a 10 year apprenticeship from the existing manager. Now unless Fergies going to manage until he's 80 which seems unlikely thats not going to happen either. I'm convinced and Man United fans may not agree with this that they aren't going to enjoy the same success they are used to when Ferguson goes.
I based my comment on the situation at utd if mourinho was saf's successor,if it is mourinho dont you think during his contract talks he'd want assurances that he'd be given the funds to buy his targets and bring in his own backroom staff(who will have their own traing methods etc). Or do you think he'll agree to take over and carry on with the saf rule book ,tactics and training procedures? fergusons empire will crumble as soon as he retires unless united promote from within.
Been waiting for you to reply. If we include all trophies except division 2 and lancashire league/manchester cup sort of stuff heres the results.... Man Utd - 59 Liverpool - 58 We also come out on top in 6 head 2 heads compared with 3 for Liverpool. United - League, FA Cup, Charity/Community shield, CWC, Intercontinental cup, Club WC Liverpool - EC/CL, Uefa/Europa, League Cup We also win on h2h against each other 71 to 61.
Why so selective? Either we use the first class trophies or we use all and in both Liverpool come 2nd.
Comolli spoke of Henderson only wanting to talk about the football. I agree with suarezlfc that City are going in the right direction and steadily progressing. I think they're still learning how to balance the money with the project. They've spent big but mostly to secure the players they really want: if you had all that money would you have bought Lescott, Barry and Bellamy? No, you'd probably give Real and Barca a call. But Hughes knew he needed team players supplementing stars, not Galacticos - Bellamy was their best player with Barry behind him - and I think Mancini has the same view, if different tactics. Now they've got some silverware it'll help convince players about their project.
Sorry 40 is still more than 38. Liverpool are still more successful. And you can't mention the ''We played teams nobody has ever heard of cup''.I haven't included charity shields or super cups.
What consitutes 1st class? the two you added that were from a fifa run money raking friendly tournament cant be taken in the same high regard as those included in the list on my link. Or can they?
Its hard to compare different trophies from different eras, nowadays the league cup has lost importance while the Club World Cup has gained in stature and importance, it was the opposite when Liverpool were winning trophies. There was also the fact teams now play severly weakened ones in the league cup while back then it was strongest XI most of the time. Also back in the 80s you had to play against the likes of Zico, nowadays it's a bunch of European rejects, young prospects and past it South Americans who've gone home after being too old or out of shape to play in Europe.
Yeah because winning the World Club Cup is soooo much harder than winning division 2. But okay, take out division 2 and the Lancashire league: UTD 19 First Division/Premier League 11 FA Cups 4 League Cups 18 FA Charity/Community Shield 3 European Cup/Champions League 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 1 UEFA Super Cup 1 Intercontinental Cup 1 FIFA Club World Cup Total: 59 LIVERPOOL 18 First Division/Premier League 7 FA Cups 7 League Cups 15 FA Charity Shield/FA Community Shield 1 Super Cup 5 European Cup/Champions League 3 UEFA Cups 3 UEFA Super Cups Total: 59 That's also leaving our wartime titles. Even when you're being selective in which titles you count you're still not ahead.
Now thats being selective. Liverpool have won 40 major honours Man United 38 and correct me if I'm wrong. But 40 is more than 38,so Liverpool reign supreme as the most successful.
So you count the FA Cup as primary and not the League Cup?. Both tournaments earn the winners a place in europe. Are you putting as much importance and prestige on winning the FA Cup as you would on being Champions of Europe or England?
What the hell is a super cup? Seriously. WHAT THE HELL IS IT? Its not the Uefa one so come on? Anyway your wartime titles were regional titles and thus, that debate has just ended forever. They dont count end of because then you need to start counting local leagues and cups into it all and it gets silly. National or continental or world wide only. Regional is just silly.
