After all is said and done, irrespective of how we played yesterday, and while we'll all argue it feels very much like two points dropped, we're somehow ONLY two points from the play offs. Come on QPR, please beat Reading today so we'll have gained a point over the course of the weekend. One thing that certainly does please me with us currently, is although we're not playing great football etc, we are regularly picking up points. Whatever way you look at things, that is very positive. Pleased SEB has the under 21 game Monday, that should help with his fitness no ends.
I was rooting for you guys yesterday, as it would put more pressure on Reading to pickup points and stop QPR winning. Maybe sneaking up slowly will be better for you
Very true westy. Somehow we are picking up points, micks defensive ethic. And despite not reà lly setting the league alight we are still in with a shout of 6th. I'm sure there will be many more twists and turns yet. Having SEB up front will take some of the onus of dids to keep scoring, assuming he still has it after so long out.
Exactly after a couple of poor performances we seem to throw the baby out with the bath water when you actually look where we are Mick has done a remarkable job with the players we have and I think at the start of the season everyone would've taken the position we are currently in after the past few seasons and now lack of investment. I think it shows that though when this style of football doesn't pick up as many points as we want it suddenly skews because there aren't many positives that can be taken from it. The positive is there seems to be discontent but it's come from 2 draws, we haven't even lost games, so yes not playing well and picking up points is the sign of a good team, the issue i have as I have said before is if it becomes a style of play and you don't even try to impose your game on the other team. Man U were the outstanding example of being able to pick up points when not playing well under Ferguson but they initially went out trying to impose their games on teams, trying to dominate possession playing attacking football but if that didn't work they had the ability to see games out. It seems like under Mick we've gone to the polar opposite of what we were under Jewell, under Jewell we tried to impose our game on the opposition playin attacking attractive football more often than not we didn't have the backbone to take advantage of our play and we would just crumble now we have plenty of backbone and grit and determination but not much else particularly if Cresswell and McG fail to hit form. It's vital we have this grit, determination and backbone but for me these are the basics of any football team
I think we are all quite capable of doing Mathematics Yorkie, I forgot games in hand = 3 points to each of our rivals as a gimme............ Did I say we'll make the play offs? No. We are two points off before the Reading game somehow. For what it's worth Yorkie, I think we'll be 7-11 come the seasons end.
I think we will be 6th after all the seasons fixtures have been played, but if we do miss out it's still been a vast improvement on the last few seasons. As with the team under Burley I think if we can improve season on season building a team that wants to succeed as a group rather than just bringing in players every five minutes because someone had a bad game. As I've said before I don't think promotion was the target this season that's not to say that MM doesn't want it just that the more important goal was to get away from being a team that gets its arse whipped and flirts with the drop for most of the season, for me that has been a success and I think next year the target will be to make a charge at the play offs.
Thanks for that Weighty, you saved me the trouble of writing something similar. Not sure about finishing sixth though
My pleasure...I'm not sure about finishing sixth but I think we are still in the mix with a lot of points still to play for..
Exactly, this is usually the time in the season when the team up the top start to stutter and the teams near relegation start to pick up some points, so you never know, we've probably been one of the more consistent teams over the season.
It's the best, most competitive and unpredictable league in football. Despite the daisies not being pulled up we are where we are by being consistent. I'd love us to sneak into 6th and take on the play off lottery. Equally what has been achieved this season in terms of position and improvement shows we are heading the right way.
Exactly, the OP was a bit premature. Not that we can't make the play offs still with a good run, but realistically we've got ourselves in touching distance but not been able to find that little extra to take us over that line into 6th spot.
I think Mick thought its a bit early to take up a play off spot so we will wait till the last minute and storm in and win the play offs......
I watched 60 minutes of the Reading game yesterday, they looked a very good outfit. Pace out wide, through the middle and better players than us. 5 points behind them with 16 to play, if Reading keep up their recent performances they will be a certainty for top 6. Looks difficult for us now I will confess, big game at Leicester. Need 3 points ideally if we're going to have a prayer of top 6. At least Nugent scores at Portman Road, hopefully not the home game!
LMFAO, what a bunch of delusional day dreamers you are, praising below average football and thinking it could still get us in the playoffs. Maybe if you were to get your heads out of each others arses, you may see how poor we are. As for the best league in the world, omg are you for real. It is a piss poor league, where most teams are pretty even and whete the dourest teams can be top 8. Wake up ladies!! Apologies to stretchy, he is not included in any of this as he can see whats going wrong!!
