Actually, The Lord Advocate said that "this is not about people expressing robust, indeed offensive opinions" adding "this is about people trying to cause trouble at games".

I'm going to need a lot of convincing to believe that Celtic fans are trying to cause trouble in singing this song. That is to say that if The Lord Advocate is as good as his word, this is not, nor can not be criminal.

And therein lies the stupidity and hypocrisy of the Act.

    I wouldn't say it's a guide.

Not really, as has always been the case in Scots Law it's up to the Sheriff to decide on any punishment or lack of. Same as Breach.

So what's the purpose of selling it? To gain attention for their cause? A top 40 entry won't guarantee that. To raise funds? 4000 downloads at maybe 20p profit per sale will not add a lot to the legal fund, and besides, if this is FAC's attempt at trying to convince people that they have a case, then they have by the sale of this song just disconnected any support they may have had from other fan groups. In my opinion, it's an own goal at worst and at best, a bit of a waste of time.

The point is to shine a light....And it has. Regardless of where it charts it has been an unqualified success.

FAC is made up of all the major supporters groups who all give their backing to this campaign. As far as I am aware there are no major supporters groups that don't back it. That is overwhelming backing. I just don't see this disconnect.

So you think Rangers fans who support FAC won't have a problem with this becoming their unofficial anthem?

This only ends when people run out of different ways to say the same thing.

I still don't get what this has to do with football.

FAC is made up of groups of Celtic supporters. Support does come from supporters of other clubs, but it is driven by the initiatives of Celtc supporters groups. Therefore it shouldn't come as a surprise to discover that Celtic supporters will respond with the very tool used against them.

I don't expect there is a single fan of any other club in Scotland who supports the aims and objectives of FAC who would be surprised by this. Personally I would be supportive of fans initiatives from other clubs if they could articulate that point as well as FAC have. That certainly wouldn't mean that I have to adopt their politic.

I have already referenced the point that there will be Celtic supporters who are against the Act but don't support this particular action. No problem at all. The same would go for fans of other clubs.

I've said all I will but i've said it before and at the risk of repeating myself this does no one any good, it cannot help FAC's cause because few if any will change their mind on the back of this. Their attempts to get the law changed are doomed to failure and the only thing it will accomplish is showing Celtic FC in a bad light.

Yup. People previously unaware of the issue are now to be found in their thousands ringing their MSPs demanding the rights of Celtic fans to sing IRA songs at the fitba. <ok>

People are more aware that football fans are being criminalised by stupid laws.

And more aware of the types of songs Celtic fans sing...

Sure that shines a great light on us...

When most people read this story they are unlikely to think that Celtic fans are being criminalised, they are far more likely to think that Celtic fans are breaking the law, and they are as it stands. Breaking the law as a protest is an action unlikely to get that law changed.

Singing this song at a football game will get you arrested, even if the law did not exist the singers could be arrested under at least 2 other current laws. Do away with the new law and the others simply form the basis of any charges.
