Lallana, Lambert, Davis, Wanyama, Maya... I wouldn't try too hard to defend any of them. Least of all MP
It's clear he got the selection wrong, but he wouldn't have expected us to be that bad. That was woeful.
Meek capitulation. Don't know why they even bothered making the trip. Pathetic. Lambert's making a very good case for Carroll to go to the world cup. Hasn't looked interested for weeks now and that miss was nigh on unforgivable.
More disappointed by the selection than the result, I think sometimes you have to be realistic in the cups but in this scenario there is no excuse to have not played our first team. The worst thing is that the first team players that did play will have had their confidence completely deflated by that, when we'd just started getting some real momentum going. Got to beat West Ham now, really.
I thought Davis has been one of our better players. Agree Lambert has been poor. To me, Wanyama just looks sluggish. He doesn't seem to demand the ball from the centre backs, and get the passing going, like Cork does. He just wanders round aimlessly. I will happily admit when he has a good game. He has had a few this season. I wouldn't say he was necessarily poor today, but he just simply isn't close to Morgan and Cork.
We deserved that. No real attempt to play our normal game. No-one seemd to have a decent try; I'm struggling to think of anyone who had a solid game. Clyne probably. Ah well, onwards and, hopefully, upwards. Vin
If we knew we'd lost when we saw the team sheet...imagine what the players felt. It knocked their confidence from the start. Well done to Poyet...putting out a second string, but getting them motivated.
