Well if you think he is then you have to accept that he's also saying that it's top 4 or no job for him. That doesn't seem like he's trying to say that he should only be sacked if he loses 6 games, just that 4/5 games lost in the run in might not put us out of the race for 4th.

Assuming we draw some I think 4 would be the absolute most we could afford to lose, to be honest, but I don't think he's getting the excuses in as he's spoken about our squad having lots of top players and being good enough for top 4 throughout his interviews since taking charge.

I guess so, the comments seem pretty inoffensive to me though. I also happen to think he's been brave in turning down any transfers in so I don't think he's suddenly starting to make excuses now.

  2. The thing is, YV, some of us (me included, I'll hold my hands up to it) have been against Sherwoodie from the very start and it's going to take an awful lot to convince us that he's up to the job. Nothing I've seen or heard so far has convinced me; indeed, quite the opposite.

I'm not convinced either but he's improved our results. We're not going to win every game, regardless who the manager is but since Sherwood's taken over we've done well so I think he deserves a bit of respect at this stage.

If we lose tomorrow I'll be back with the lynch mob though <laugh>

    "Spurs need Liverpool to falter"

Irrefutable as a statement of fact, but meaningless nonetheless with 3 points between the teams and a third of the season left.

Talking down expectations is not a good tactic given that Spurs have been 4th or in contention for 4th for the past half dozen seasons. Better to just keep schtum and get on with it.

I don't think anyone here was celebrating the appointment of Sherwood, but it was either that or keep AVB until the end of the season, because there wasn't anyone better available. Given that choice I vote Sherwood. Come the summer when people like Van Gaal and de Boer are fluttering their eyelashes at Levy it may be a different story, but right now he's what we've got so I'll back him and hope he does better than anyone expects, because there really isn't any alternative.

As for the soundbite, I think it was just a lame attempt at Moaninho style mind games, as in "it's all Liverpool's to lose". Which it is! People are reading far too much into it.

  6. Whether you back him or not, it makes absolutely no difference to how things will pan out.

My not "backing" him isn't going to make him a better or a worse manager.

Don't you ever stop? You are so caught up with wummery that you don't seem to be able to. Now it appears you are wumming your own team! I say "your own" very loosely as surely part of being a supporter is occasionally, just very occasionally, saying something just a bit positive about "your" team.

  10. Who the hell are you to question me?

    Really?

Or do you want me to agree with everything you say and think? Is that what you want?

I am glad to tell you, and every one like you, it ain't ever going to happen.

Now, crawl off back under your rock.

  14. That wasn't wummery, it was mere bile and nastiness.

Proper wummery is gentlemanly. Like when I take the piss out of the Mousers.

Is that the current form where Liverpool beat Arsenal by 5 goals to 1. No wonder you don't take part in the prediction leagues <laugh>

  17. I was rather hoping to catch a couple on Mouser-fishes with that one, Spurf, not a fellow Yid.

Spurs will be busy competing for Europa League spot with Everton and United.

Big Boys like Liverpool are aiming Top 3. Spurs have more difficult games.

    My top 7

    1) City
    2) Chelsea
    3) Liverpool
    4) Arsenal
    5) Everton
    6) United
    7) Spurs
