I said it a while back, Sherwood is to us in 2013-4 what Pleat was in 2003-4: a caretaker for half a season, as the coach we're looking at has an international tournament to finish with first.
Levy doesn't have a good track record of replacing managers with a personality for foreign managers who are meant to take us to the next level. As said earlier, on paper Van Gaal ticks the boxes but he seems too perfect so I'm not blindly believing it's as simple as hire Van Gaal and we will get success.
It sounds to me like you want the unproven British manager but you are strictly averse to the relatively unproven British player? ;P
I like managers who create excitement and a unpredictable nature but give fans some hope and substance. Sherwood is unproven but is getting results and making the season enjoyable so for that I've got respect for his management. Also he's not daft enough to bid for players like Fletcher
Levy asked Sherwood if he wanted to strengthen, although he probably regrets not trying to sign Charlie Austin.
LOL, probably. Where did you get this information? (that Levy asked Sherwood) Did Timmy say something?
Yes my friend, I asked him! No he explained in an interview Levy asked him if he wanted to strengthen but said no, we have too many players. That's why I'm wondering if these rumours about Van Gaal are true as why would Levy ask Sherwood if he wanted to sign players. But jokes aside, Celtic where looking at Austin, and he may well do Ok with QPR next year if Redknapp gets them promotion so you may have the last laugh!
Talking of Celtic, i also wanted a punt on Hooper. So far he's proving me wrong, but then he's got an easy game coming up so better not talk too much.
Just read an interview from Kaboul which he says Interview in full http://www1.skysports.com/football/...oul-fully-behind-tottenham-coach-tim-sherwood
The biggest problem for Sherwood may be the shadow cast by his predecessor. Spurs gave a chance to an inexperienced manager who had shown promise, but it didn't work out. If the reports are to be believed, the preference will be for a experienced, proven manager like van Gaal. Sherwood might be seen as a useful assistant for someone like him who needs to familiarise himself with the PL and the club itself. I suppose what Sherwood has going for him is his knowledge of the club and players, his lack of baggage, an obviously good relationship with those he is working with and his CV as a player working under some successful managers.
Personally I think we would be mad not to go for Van Gaal in the summer, he's been my second choice behind Hiddink for a few seasons. Its going to be very harsh on sherwood, but he is still enjoying his honeymoon period and I think once the players cease to find him motivating (which anyone would be in AVB's wake), our results will begin to suffer. Regardless of where we finish, I'd like to see an amicable parting of ways in the summer, Tim can go off and bring Blackburn back to the prem and cut his teeth, and Van Gaal can take us on to Tue 'next level'. Tim's got time on his side if he wants to manage a big club, and I'd welcome him back in ten years if he's proved a success, but he's too big a risk at the moment.
Morally if Sherwood get's top 4 he deserves the job. This would be the fair and show the football world that the club for once is doing the right thing. Ramos has just said, "economics is more important than winning at Spurs, deals like Bale to Madrid highlight Spurs plan, they sell established stars and replace mainly with prospects . winning clubs look at the performance of a player. they look at the age. Levy spurned titles by selling Berb. Keane and buying Bent, Pav when he wanted Eto or Villa " We all know it all went wrong for him and he may be pissed off but they are facts , which make it nearly impossible for any manager to win silverware under Levy. To be fair he has won our only trophy if but minor in 15 years, pretty piss poor to keep this ruinous policy of self destruct .
I saw that interview too, I laughed when he said this bit... The Spurs chairman has frequently asked Sherwood if he needs any new players, but, after the club made seven additions to the squad last summer, the head coach feels there is no point in making an already bloated squad bigger. "Daniel's asked if I want to strengthen in this area or need any help, but I'm confident with the players we've got," Sherwood said. "I don't need anyone else, thank you very much. "They (Levy and technical director Franco Baldini) can bring them in (but) they won't play. We're in this together. Unless we're all in agreement they don't bring them in, because there's no point because they won't play.
I agree. But I don't think that the words 'moral' or 'fair' are in Levy's vocabulary and that's why I won't be at all surprised to see Sherwood replaced regardless of where we finish. Btw, I don't understand why people are assuming that the Championship is his level if that does happen. You don't think any PL club would take a chance on a manager that finished top 4 with Spurs? When people like Rene Meulensteen and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can get PL jobs? I think he'd have plenty of offers.
The point is, though, that Sherwoodie can play the way he is setting us up to play because he had the talent in the squad to do it; and even then, there are times where he's almost come undone, and massively undone (ie. against £ity). With a less talented side, he'd be on the back end of a hard spanking almost every week, and he wouldn't last more than 6 months in the job.
If a so-called "big manager" does come in, I would hope Sherwood still be in the fold. It would be nice to nurture a manager from within over the next few years.
One day club chairmen will lose their foolish belief that just because somebody played for/worked under Alex Ferguson, that must make them a good manager. Mainly because they don't have referees in their pocket like he did...
LOL. Brilliant! Sherwood clearly loves himself, with a big head to boot (literally) but after Avb 'the yes man' It's refreshing to have a character who can speak up for himself!
