Ok i get what Poyet is saying about the form of Borini and Johnson, what i don't get is how Larsson and Gardner get more game time than an Italian International player. It does happen wrong player, wrong club, could this be another example of this? Thought this fella was gonna be a superstar at SAFC, there's still time, we'll see. What's your thoughts on this lad. ......................................................................... GUS POYET admits Emanuele Giaccherini has grown frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities. But the Italian international has not let that marginal role with Sunderland affect him on the training field and he will be given the chance to stake his claim by returning to the starting XI in tomorrowâs FA Cup fifth round clash at home to Southampton. Giaccherini, linked with a string of clubs in Serie A during the January transfer window, has not appeared in the Premier League since Sunderlandâs New Yearâs Dayâs defeat to Aston Villa. Poyet says he is struggling to find a role in the starting line-up for the 28-year-old â a similar situation that the head coach faced before Christmas with Giaccheriniâs fellow Italian, Fabio Borini. But Poyet says that is no slight on Giaccherini himself, with the form of Borini and Adam Johnson the main reason for the ex-Juventus manâs lack of opportunities. Poyet told the Echo: âHeâs not happy for sure, but heâs a professional. âHe trains more than anybody and he wants to run more than anyone else. âIâm sure heâs desperate to have a chance. âHe will play tomorrow, but itâs been difficult for me. âI think heâs deserved more minutes in the team, but, for some reason, I canât play him. âItâs more me than him. Itâs like the situation was with Borini. âWeâre trying to do things and thereâs players in certain positions that I really like and I canât use him in the manner I want to. âEspecially with the form of Borini and Jonno (Adam Johnson), itâs been difficult for him.â Both Poyet and predecessor Paolo Di Canio experimented with using Giaccherini in the hole behind the striker â a position that the £6.8million summer capture favours. But with the 4-3-3 system proving to be successful for Sunderland, Poyet and his staff are trying to develop Giaccherini as an alternative to Borini or Johnson on the flanks. âIf weâre playing 4-4-2, then he can play in front of the midfield and he wants to play more infield,â added Poyet. âBut I think the football in England and the way weâre playing, itâs more about wide players coming inside and creating chances. âIt depends on how you play. âThe best game I saw him play was West Ham away, where he was outstanding. âHe was always in the right place, making space and driving forwards. Thatâs how weâre trying to use him.â
With a holding midfielder could he not be deployed as on of the other two central midfielders at home?
For me he's too lightweight to do this. It might be a case of him having to adjust to this league for a season before coming good next (which admittedly isn't great considering our league standing). However, I'd wager he'll be off back to Italy in the summer regardless of our league status.
I'd play him on the left instead of Borini - and play Borini up front instead of Altidore! Just my opinion though. I think it'd be good having him one side and Johnson the other and swapping them about at times. Both capable of cutting in or going down the line and Borini (IMO) will profit from this.
I would give him a try in centre midfield. Like has been said above, he's a far better option than larsson
Aye but this lad is only 17. please log in to view this image Honest. Check out the story, 17 or 41? http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/26162408
I wouldnt use Borini as a target man/lone striker. Borini is fast, and he does a good job by picking up the ball and running at defenders. The role wouldnt suit him imo
I do. Not as a target man though. That would be insane. We play the ball on the deck these days meaning we can finally adapt our play to suite most styles of forward. Bit of direct pace upfront is a great option to have imo. Look at how many folk wanted Defoe, a striker that plays off the last man and runs the back line. We didn't get a striker like that but we already have one in Borini, at least for now anyway. problem is we don't have anybody to play inside left as Giacc has clearly struggled with the role.
He should be playing as one of the 3 central midfielders, especially at home, as he is the one player who could link up play between the deep lying midfielders and the forward. If he isn't started for whatever reason, he should certainly without question be brought on in front of Larsson and Gardner.
Not talking aout a "Target" man - i.e. not booting the ball up for him to hold up (although his first touch is pretty good). More use the wingers to get the ball to feet and in the corridor of uncertainty (puns are us!). Borini will thrive in there and benefit Sunderland. A lone striker doesn't have to be a "target man"
Was just thinking who would have loved to have been in the team now, with his passing, and i came up with this player.
He'd be isolated, fighting against 2 CBs and losing Having a big man up front is what creates space for our wide attackers. I'm obviously right, as otherwise Poyet would have tried it your way already nah, its all about opinions but I cant see Borini having a good time of it up front by himself
I love Giacc and would have him in the team every match. Play him in the middle with Catts and Ki. Catt and Bridcutt,, Catts and Colback, Ki and Colback. Those other players can all play the holding role, Giacc brings flair and creativity to the side. He is also strong for a small guy and does get stuck in.He has scored some vital goals for us this season too. I can see with Brown being Injured Ki playing Centre half, lets face it with Brown out of the team we need someone with a calm head who can distribute the ball.
I like Giacc anarl and can't see how a player of his quality isn't getting games. He'll take time to adapt to the Prem and he simly isn't getting any ATM. Mad...
Not my way fella, just pondering options, It's true I wanted him to be given a chance, what with it being his natural position and the other strikers being dreadful. But the way we play with Jozy dropping short has clicked so wouldn't be in a hurry to change things. I think Gus has it spot on. But a couple of slow centre backs would have a nightmare with Borini leading the line. It's good to know it's an option against the right opponent. Options are never a bad thing imo.
Do people think all the defenders in Serie A are small or something? Some of the defenders are absolute tanks over there, not just the Italians but the likes, of Glik, Mexes etc are ****ing hulks. Too easy to say 'league is too physical', they all are now, bar the French & Portuguese.
