There was an interview with someone from Brizzle City on Talksport about the installation of the safe standing area:
    1) The installation of these retractable seats is more expensive than a standard seat
    2) They occupy the same space as a standard seat
Therefore I think we can discount any reduction in ticket prices, probably push the price up if anything based on this information

There was a time when the thought of sitting down at a football match seemed wrong somehow. But I wasn't 52 back then. Sod it, I'll keep my seat thanks.

OK, how about this then. Have the rail seats, but with the seat fitted higher up on the rail, so that if you fancy having a rest, or if you are below average height, you can still see. Best of both worlds?

It's all to do with leverage. As I've said before, I don't think those so-called safe standing frames are built strong enough, unless they are constructed of a high grade galvanised or stainless steel. The design looks flimsy, and unless the bolts screwed into the concrete [which has to be good enough to take them] are put in correctly, they could be ripped out, at worst. Can you imagine what might happen if one of those frames gave way high up a terrace, with several thousand supporters below. The domino effect might prove interesting on Youtube, but it would still end up as a tragedy.

By all means test them though.

What I like about seats is that they are great levellers. Everyone can see provided that everyone stays seated. We can all leap up when someone scores just as long as we sit down again.

I prefer sitting but you don,t always get a choice when the dingbats in front of you exercise their. 'right' to stand and abuse the stewards trying to get everyone sitting down.

You know, there's plenty of terraces at Eastleigh.

If we do introduce standing then we should have miseriecords dam it. We are Saints after all and I do pray a great deal through the course of a game. They would definitely be appropriate if fitted in the Chapel end.

Yes, an odd one that, when they have absolutely no right to stand. The rare times I've been in the Northam, I've had to spend most of the match standing. As I've said before, I spent too many years standing at The Dell. I pay for my seat and I want to use it, including enjoying the excellent view fo the match, not someone's ill fitting Levis.

The work would pay for itself over a season. Just one stand mind. But it is coming back for sure.

The only advantage that I can see is that the selfish gits who leap up when the ball is passed to a promising area, blocking everyone's view, could be dumped there.
The safe standing area could then be fitted with spikes; this would ensure that they didn't try to cheat their reduced entry level ticket by sitting.at all.
    I love this plan. Let's do it!<laugh>

A designated safe standing area is the way forward and as has been said most of the Northam stand anyway. I will always prefer to sit down at a game as I can relax more, standing at 6ft 3 I am always paranoid that the people behind me can't see if I stand. Quite often I miss stuff because I am sitting and people in front are standing.

Maybe the standing area should be tiered according to height, that way you will always have a shorter person in front of you and never have a blocked view!

I doubt that there will be much of a price change in a designated standing area as I think there will not be many more places dues to safety concerns. Anyway fans are happy to pay seated prices to stand in the Northam, so I'm not sure why price has suddenly become an issue....cheapskates. :)
