Its all well and good to believe that DM can produce a championship quality team if he is given £100-200 million to spend in the summer to rebuild the team and get rid of dead wood but it is not going to make a difference because having watched all of utds games this season, he is coaching an offensive team defensively and as a result, they are not scoring enough goals whilst giving up a lot of goals as well.
Under SAF, everybody knew there were deficiencies in midfield but SAF covered it up by having dynamic wingers and explosive forwards, in other words he used an offensive game plan to mask the weak midfield and as a result usually outscored the opposition. Against the teams in the lower half of the table, this usually worked but usually against a more balanced team like in the top six or in europe, the flaws were exposed, but the results over the teams in the lower half and the positive results at old trafford against the bigger teams were usually enough to win the title. This formula has virtually worked in the last four seasons since CR7 left the club with two first place finishes and two second place finishes, one on goal difference.

Enter David Moyes and his defensive brand of football, first of all even though it might be a small thing but every time i see the opposition have a corner or a free kick near the area, all 10 outfield players are behind the ball defending, what on earth is that about, how are you going to counter attack effectively when everyone is behind the ball. The bottom line is that when they clear the ball from a corner or free kick and there is nobody to put any pressure on the defenders that stayed behind, they basically regain possession and come back at the utd defence.
This is the kind of tactic that defensive teams employ when they are going out of their way to make sure they don't give away any opportunities , and for me to see utd do that really breaks my heart. I am struggling to remember a goal utd scored on the break from defending a corner this season, and under SAF they usually scored a few of those.

I am as happy as any utd fan about the signing of Mata, but the first question I asked myself was where were they going to play him, I have always said that for me the biggest conundrum in the utd team is Wayne Rooney because he is the type of talent that you build a team around, but when SAF signed RVP, he basically put a cat in amongst the pigeons because what we now have are two absolute world class strikers in a team with average midfielders and whilst it might have been successful because of the way SAF had utd playing last season, DM is a totally different coach and obviously his methods are not working for them because of the lack of strength or composure in midfield, so in my opinion you have to drop or get rid of one of those strikers because they really can not play together as can be evidenced this season by them hardly ever passing to each other.

All season he has had a chance to play Kagawa as the no.10 at various times when Rooney or RVP were injured be instead he started him off on the left and renders him ineffective, and when they come back from their injuries, kagawa is relegated to the bench/stand and now he is doing the same thing with Juan Mata who has been the premier league's most creative player in the last 3 seasons.

It concerns me that during the arsenal game yesterday, he did not have the "balls" to substitute one of the strikers, or better still start with one striker with mata behind him. When you have a mediocre midfield and a lack of effective wingers, then you need a no.10 who can bring everyone in to the game effectively with short passes, and nobody does that in this league better than mata, but instead you send him out to the left wing where he will naturally float inside whilst also asking him to track Sagna's runs forward. From the moment I saw the line-up yesterday, i just knew they would not get the win and i felt that if arsenal had not been a tad tentative, they might have gone for the win because they would have gotten it if they tried harder.

Thinking forward to next season, a decision will have to be made about Rooney and RVP, because as a pair they are not effective enough to win any trophies against the juggernaut that is city and a Jose Mourinho led Chelsea and definitely not in any european competition if they even get in.
And a quick and decisive decision must be made about the midfielders that have to be signed because it really pains me to see how well Thiago is playing for FC Bayern knowing that if utd had acted quickly and decisively they would have signed him instead of chasing Fabregas as well, and failing to sign either.

But anyway ancient history now so I would appeal to David Moyes to go out and sign two out of Kroos, Gundogan, and Koke as well as Reus. The reason why i have mentioned these players is because they have the required quality and all have buy out clauses so if the money is there, spend it. To counteract these signings, I would get rid of Valencia, Young, Cleverley and ask Giggs to retire, I would get rid of Fellaini as well, but at the price they bought him for and being one of DM's favourites at everton, you have to imagine he is not going anywhere. I would also reluctantly sell Chicharito because Welbeck is now ahead of him in the pecking order and it is unfair to keep a player of that calibre on the bench every week. And the most difficult decision I would make is who to get rid of between Rooney and RVP, because as a pair utd will continue to play 4-4-2 and that would totally defeat the purpose of having creative players like Mata and the players i have listed as potential signings as well as the emergence of Adnan.
With Ferdinand and Vidic leaving , I would sign one of Subotic or Hummells as once again being that they are dortmund players they have buy out clauses as well and either one of these can compete with Jones, Evans and Smalling. Also make changes at the fullback positions with Evra out of contract and Rafael Regressing.

Moyes would turn Barca into a mid table team. He'd get Celtic relegated.

You could give Moyes 100billion to rebuild, but due to being so tactically inept, it wouldn't make a bit of difference.

He should be managing Leicester City to be honest.

Fellaini's best position at everton was no.10, and with Rooney and Kagawa at the club, and the emergence of Adnan what was the point in signing him for a crazy amount of money and in the long run can anyone actually see him playing regularly for utd especially after the signing of Mata.
I think Moyes always dreamt of managing a big club, but as soon as he got the money to spend he did not know what to do with it

    Poor Kagawa.

At least you have Mata now. Looking forward to seeing his debut at no 10 this weekend.

Has he been injured since you signed him?
