Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has vowed to pump money into the first-team squad before addressing off-field issues. Promotion to the Premier League could net the Swans around £90million, offering a timely boost to their bank balance. It is expected that a percentage of that funding will be put towards improving the club's training facilities, with a switch to a new base at Landore widely touted. Jenkins, though, accepts that issues on the field must be addressed first, with it imperative that new recruits are drafted in. With that in mind, he has promised manager Brendan Rodgers that he will be given a sizeable transfer kitty this summer. "First and foremost we want to compete in the Premier League and that's what we aim to do," Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post. "We'll strengthen the team in key areas to be ready for the challenge. "The first aim is to make sure we stay in the best league in the world. "We have worked hard over the last eight to ten years to get this opportunity and we must make sure we do everything we can to keep building this club." Jenkins has also revealed that the club plan to increase the capacity of their Liberty Stadium home, with 16,000 season tickets having been snapped up for the 2011/12 campaign. He said: "We're looking at various options to increase capacity and we'll do something when we can. "When we're ready we'll discuss it. "It would be very difficult to do during the playing season - the first opportunity would be next May." - TeamTalk Have to say this is indeed music to my ears! well said Huw, Well said Swansea City board!....... please log in to view this image
yes well done huw lets just concentrate in staying up this season and worry about extending if we manage to do that,
Brilliant news, should go down a storm with the imbreds down then M4 Not llanelli, the scummy capital
Yep said that after next season will be the first to expand, it's got be additional seating in non essential places, and will only be done if we stay up IMO . I do think that the club needs to spend some money, but I am concerned by the amount and the contract terms must include clauses for relegation.
Dear Huw This statement is a lie. I hate you, you will not spend and your the most pathetic excuse for a chairman ever. Premier league? Is that it. I want champions league and I want Messi. We need rid of you, now. Yours sincerely, Daiswan.
He hasn't stated how much he will spend though. One thing for sure, it's definately not going to be his own cash!
He is the chairman of the club, do you see chairmen of other businesses spending their own money on a business that employs you, perhaps you could ask the tesco or bp chairmen how much money they put into those companies! A business needs to be self sufficient generating income, and paying bills and investing at the right time out of the money it has coming in, the problem with football fans and a lot of clubs is that it's not considered a business, it's thought of as something else, if people are pumping money into the club ie chairman or directors constantly there is something wrong with business model, a business is supposed to make money, unless you are plaything like Chelsea or QPR, and it hasn't been determined what will happen to those clubs when their billionaires get bored or die. I prefer things as they are with the swans.
Sorry meant to post earlier, just come round come over all funny Huw spending money!! That's a refreshing change!!
just being a bit satirical due to his own business somewhat going down the pan - i know couple of lads who were hoping they might get the wages he stills owes them out of the swans windfall (but they know they have no chance really)
This is the criticism that Lord Sugar has about football at the moment. If Huw was on The Apprentice I reckon he'd win hands down.
I can see where Jager is coming from, and to an extent is correct, but if we are being business like, then there is no way we can sustain Premiership football on our current model, I think from articles I've read you need a fan base of at least 36,000 attending every week, plus increased investment from other income streams, it will be interesting to see how the Swansea board now handle this challenge, whether they settle for us being a yoyo club for some time, or whether they decide on an investor, but it will be one of our biggest challenges in recent times, and if we are to any great extent successful on the field this season, whether we like the thought of an investor or not, we will be too much of an attraction, with our balance sheet for them to ignore, it will undoubtedly be a consequence of our success, I hope we can fend off any take over, but business is business!.......................... please log in to view this image
