Looks as if he's come out of all this scott free then. http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/simon-lim-ceo-statement-feb-13-1357627.aspx Prudent yes, but what happened to that £25m January transfer kitty then and why was it not spent on more players?
It's hard to argue that KWJ is a better purchase than Cornelius but it's a bit early to start slapping Ole on the back too hard for signing him. £6 mill spend on all those players shows we probably had one eye on the championship whilst getting them. MM and Moody's decision to dick the best part of £10m on a striker no where near PL or even Championship standard could well turn out to be the reason we'll be playing in the Championship next year. Neither can argue they deserved sacking over it and it's easy to see why Tan doesn't want to pay compensation to MM.
I thought it was a good statement and shows us fans where the money is going. Steve, I would argue that KWJ is a better purchase than Cornelius, not only money wise but he has already scored more goals than Cornelius. MM & Moody should have been sacked a month earlier IMO
I agree with the assertion the previous management/scout must shoulder the blame for buying a complete dud and question how anyone could blame the board when they are businessmen and rely upon their football operatives to get the football side of the business right. Patent failure. I question the timing of this [part of the] statement, and its purpose. I also question the wisdom of praising OGS when he so far has presided over 6 league games, and out of 24 points, garnered 4, including an embarrassing surrender both tactically and on the field to the 2nd city, and moreover we now have evidence his 7 signings are potentially not what was needed to keep us in this division.
£10m could have bought us someone like Rodriquez, Bony, Remy, Long, Crouch. All capable of scoring Pl goals and what a difference a 10/15 goal striker could have made for us this season.
I agree he's already been more productive, just saying it's a bit quick to start celebrating his signing. Just because he's already not as massive a **** up as Cornelius doesn't mean he is or will be a successful signing.
I remember saying (as I am sure a lot of fans did) that our summer signings were just not going to be enough. The win over Man City whilst marvellous was possibly in the long run a bad thing; had we got stuffed then the writing which should have been on the wall earlier than it did, would have been written a lot earlier and City could have got Pulis instead of a club who we were streets ahead of last season and who relied on 2 men for promotion.
I'd never looked at it that way Nin, but MM's short comings being revealed a lot earlier could well have resulted in us getting Pulis. Having said that would Tan have given him the job being as Ole has been employed to provide a style of football rather than PL status at any cost. I also think there's a really high chance Palace will still be one of the bottom 3 but I take your point that he would have had more to work with here.
i thought we'd be around 12th at the end of the season after our summer signings. clearly malky didnt put the same level of thought and scouting in buying the likes of cornelius and medel last summer - very astute at spotting a player at a lower level but trusted with the big bucks he wasted the money, cant disagree with lim on that one. unfortunately we've lost £10m or so on cornelius which the likes of matt the lurker will add to their **** bank. but £6m on the new signings is more reasonable and gives us a fighting chance of staying up. some jacks when we signed cornelius said he was vastly overpriced and they have been proven correct. laudrup knew about him but decided to let us have him for £7.5m+.
I think the saying is "There's none so blind." We are a point off the bottom of the Premier League and this statement stirs the **** again. Basically we have gone backwards and the pr machine decides to divert attention to pushing a wedge between an already fractured fan base. Unbelievable timing. God help Ole looks like he has just been given the chairman's backing.
Lim doesn't make many statements but when he does he manages to put both feet in his mouth. Isn't he the one who authorises transfers and signs the cheques. If he thinks Ole is a major success after one league win and thinks Jones is some kind of Adebayor then he is completely deluded. He is the one who needs to be replaced.
Why is the man still at the club? If Malky and Moody were culpable according to the club, then why is he being portrayed as blame free?
i said he hadnt put in the scouting, with medel sevilla decided they didnt want him and were touting him around for £5-7m to any european team that would stump up the cash , then we end up signing him for £12m. i'm sure we could have haggled down that price alot. i couldn't see us getting £12m for him in the summer, put it that way.
You would not be where you are now dai if you had kept MM and moody imo......I cant see where oli has the skill's or the know how to improve cardiff's chances better than anyone else at the bottom and that is the only way cardiff will improve...I think bells would do a better job tbh with someone like whitts by his side who knows what cardiff are all about....
to put dai's views on cardiff city into perspective, he thinks david marshall is a poor keeper, much worse than both of swansea's keepers and is not even worth £2m.
