Completely agree with this. I don't think he will ever be of the standard we require but he has got better with each and every game he's played.
I liked the look of him. When he got on the ball he looked up and initial thought was forward. He tried some adventurous passes and the odd shot, 2nd one should have done a bit better with, but overall a promising debut. Seemed very confident of himself and didn't revert back into his shell when playing with first team players. Also very brave to BR to send him on at that stage ahead of Allen, Aspas or Moses.
I thought that was the biggest thing and would have spoke volumes to the players as well as other youngsters because we still needed another goal. Similarly though, Brod tried this in a earlier game when he put Smith on, I think it was against Chelsea?
I just hope that Brendan makes sure Sterlings confidence stays high, in light of Texeira getting game time.
Like others said in the past, he was rated as one of the best LBs in europe on a 2/3 seasons ago.. He was dire earlier on but he's getting better and certainly tries his best, if he can get back to where he was 2/3 years ago, he'll be more than a decent "squad" player, I would hope to get someone better as a first choice LB (if Enrique continues to be an injury jinx!) Onto Teixeira, not seen much of him before (the odd glimpse on LFC TV) but what little I saw of him yesterday, he's certainly comes across as a confident lad.. good to see the youngsters getting game time!
The Tex-Shearer was pretty good I thought. Had a number of chances at goal- and although he missed them all- wasn't too far off. His passing and movement looked lively. Seemed to be motivated and ambitious. I hope to see more of him- less of Moses and Aspas. Ibe didn't look bad the other day either- but Tex had the better appearance. I suspect Tex may have more goals in him than Coutinho- but didn't see anything to suggest he had the same passing range or creativity.
Feel like it is a mind games thing. Both players came in to a game that was a boiler sitaution, really tight game and not a comfortable game, with the team still searching for a goal or holding on. This has to give those young men a HUGE confidence boost that the manager trusts them enough for that ( last year with Suso against United, etc). At the same time, if I am Moses, Aspas, Alberto..... might need to have a look in the mirror on what I need to improve on or what I am doing wrong. Strange with no Alberto either? Made the point when this thread came out that we would now have Tex, Suso, and Alberto who are all really similar players?
It will be interesting to see where Texeira plays in the long run. His pass and move style and the way he plays with his head up makes me think he could be very tidy in CM. Deco has been mentioned and I think that role makes sense.
You seem a wee bit negative, I imagine the Hicks and Gillette Era must have been a VERY hard time for you..lol Im sure Sterling will be fine, If a player cant handle abit of competition then what use are they?
Players like Tex, Suso and Coutinho can play as attacking wide or as Creative midfielders. Can see lots of moving about in the future. Looking for rward to seeing more of these players in our games, (at the right times.) Options are good because one style is never going to win 100% of games.
I am glad the kid got a chance. he is close to the point where its make or break and he was way ahead of any of our u19s when we brought him in. I am seeing coutinho as one of a midfield 3 right now. i think he can do it. Then suso and Teixteira can play for a space with sterling... relly these kids are decent so the question is how much scope to improve and do you buy a Costa type (obviously not him) to play upfront or in behind or a konoplyanka type of speedy brainless winger. IT'd be interesting cos i think rodgers feels he can stick a lot of guys in defence but he needs special players up fornt.
