Fingers crossed its not as bad as some seem to think it may be. If ever a player has endeared himself to the fans it's Macca. V underwhelmed in spite of coming through the Man Utd system when we signed him but clearly one for the 'late developer' category cause he's certainly a v different player to the one we signed. Hope to see you back sooner rather than later Macca

Paul McShane will have further tests on his left ankle next week to discover the full extent of the injury sustained in Tuesday night’s game against Southampton.
McShane injured his left ankle during the opening minutes of the game against the Saints. He was transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary where x-rays revealed there was no fracture.

The defender has had further imaging on his ankle this morning, and after discussions between an orthopaedic consultant and club medical staff, it has been decided that the defender will undergo further investigations next week, once the swelling on the ankle has reduced sufficiently.

Republic of Ireland international Paul McShane will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The Hull player suffered an ankle fracture and severe ligament damage in Tuesday’s defeat to Southampton.

The 28-year-old will have an operation on Monday and is set for six months on the sidelines.

Quoted in the Irish Daily Star, McShane said: “I am out for six months with ankle ligament injury and micro fracture of the bone. I am going for an operation next Monday and I have to get myself right as quick as I can.

“It’s very frustrating to be honest as I was feeling very good. Now I must battle back as quickly as I can.”

No surprise, really. Hope he can get back for the start of the season - but he won't get the benefit of a full pre-season programme.

One thing is certain: Curtis Davies is not allowed anywhere near the pitch on Monday night!

Me too but more than once, aches on rainy days! I bought an ankle support which psychologically has proved a boost since it prevents lateral movement. I'm 41 and more of a 'get in the way' defender than a technical one ;)

Was talking early this morning with an orthopaedic colleague and showed him the picture of Macca going over on his ankle. He called it correctly (according to what Macca has said above) and said micro fracture and some ligament damage. Just saw this thread and told him well diagnosed from a photo. Said the op will probably be for the micro fracture (shaving some off) and ligaments will be left to heal most likely. Said 6 months should include physio/rehab so may get a reasonable pre-season in as he is young and fit. Plus it's Macca, and he is super Paul McShane, so sure he will be back for start of season.

As a Sunderland fan - having watched him for us I would've said it'd be a bonus for you that he can;t play - but he seems to have worked his bollocks off to show how capable he is. Hope he recovers quickly. He's never going to be a Maldini but he has worked so hard on his game and concentration since we sold him that I have nothing but respect for the lad

The thing people don't realise is he was ****e for us for about 4 and a half years before getting good. He only started playing well last season. Previous managers didn't give him a chance but most fans felt it was the right decision since whenever he did play he was crap. Bruce somehow got him playing though and a run of games seems to have done him a world of good. That's why he's revered as such a hero for us now, it's the dramatic turnaround in his performances. Also I think it started off as a daft joke when his good performances seemed out of character, but it's now become serious.
