Watford started last season with a squad which was looked upon as the weakest in the championship. I think Malky did a great job with Watford and they played good football as well. He may fail if he takes over at Cardiff but so might anybody else, you never know.
BabyDan - I tend agree with Leo. How many more times, and in how many different ways can you force your opinion on people? You made your point, some may not agree with it, move on....simples! But to say "I am simply putting someone right", when you yourself are not in possession of all the facts, equates to stamping your feet when you don't get your own way in the playground. If we were tipped for promotion and you were tipped for relegation then I guess we both failed...what a bummer eh? Personally, I couldn't care less who spent more or which manager did the better job last year. MM did what he did, DJ did what he did. It's history. Fact is, we both started and finished in the same league last season and will start in the same league next season (notice I didn't mention finish?...thats because I never assume) Just a few observations to end with: 1. Doesn't the fact you've mentioned your loan players contradict your signature? 2. I doubt that getting information from Chelsea fans on this subject is going to help your argument. Just an opinion
I'd love to know where these available budget figures come from. People trying to prove we are spending above our means quote 20 million squid, people trying to prove that we won't get a top manager becasue the board will not guarantee him money for playes quote 5 million or even nothing at times. Just like the clowns from Watford, no one knows what is available to the new manager, it is all pish in the wind.
What a stupid post!!! Malkay Mackay would be an excellent choice as manager as he is young (for a manager) has Championship experience, plays attractive football, used to working on a tight budget, passionate, not on high wages and has a good relationship with the press. Everyone thinks they know better than the chairman & board even though they were the ones doing the interviewing and meetings.
An interesting point, but Watford's finances are well known because they've been published and debated at length for a while now. Watford's finances are tightly controlled because our financial backer wants his £15m back. And that is it Watford are £15m in debt, but have no serious backer. I know Cardiff have faced 3 winding up orders, the new owners in my view are playing a bit of a game by trying to stretch the finances. These details are relevant, because the manager has to compete with some big fish at this level. The likes of Southampton and Brighton are on a roll, Southampton's budget last season was £21m and this was with tiny TV money. Next season the challenge is on to see how skillful managers are at using their "limited budget". Us Watford fans all believe Malky is brilliant at this.
Elixir, all of what you said may be true but it had no relevance to my post so why did you repost my comment? all I asked is why people invent budget numbers to suit their particular argument. I'm not dissing your argument just wondering where some posters get their information from. There must be more people who know someone in the Cardiff city boardroom than know the queen.
multiple interviews (as with any other job), one man chosen from them all. How does that make it 5th choice? Because the media spoon feeds you your opinions, it doesn't make it true.
http://www.not606.com/member.php/1008157-babyhornetdan Sorry Luke I'm gunna have to agree with BHD because although DJ didn't actually have any transfer money to spend, he must've spent the most out of the championship sides on wages (bar one or two), and failed on a budget and team that most managers would have taken up reasonably easily. MM on the other hand (I can only assume) had no budget and in all honesty performed above expectations and played some lovely football, IF we get MM I'd love to get Sordell, looked immense at the CCS it has to be said. P.S Does anyone know how to change your username? I've looked everywhere on my profile and can't seem to find it, this names p*****g me off now

Fair enough H-bomb, i was simply saying that Dave jones did what he did with money from one source or another where as Malky Mackay did it with no money from anywhere. Also that Dave Jones was expected to take Cardiff to the premiership but he failed. Malkey was expected to lead Watford to league one, which he prevented. Therefore he exceeded expectations. I will be very very sad to see a true watford legend leave the club where he made a name for himself and done so well. I am sure he will do good things with you and i hope he is happy there and i will be cheering his name when he comes back to the vic in the future.
Malky is a mid-table manager, who managed to do less than Dave Jones with more money. That is why Malky Mackay would be a backweard step in the progression of this football club. I for one will not back his appointment, as I don't believe he has earnt any sort of chance at a big club like Cardiff. ------------------------------------------------------ Mackay is a good appointment, I don't know what you're on about. We were never going to match O'neil's wage demands. As for Hughton and Di Matteo, Hughton may have got Newcastle promoted, but he already had the players to do so (e.g. Nolan, Smith, Barton, Carroll, Enrique, Guiterezz, Coloccini etc.) and Di Matteo already had the squad + money from WBA's previous relegation. If you look at both Swansea and Norwich, they had "unproven" managers who haves the same qualities as Mackay, so how isn't he the right man? It's fair that you have you're own view, but please get behind the man if he signs a deal with us and give him your full support, as every city fan should.
i have to agree with the WFC fans, Malky did have less at his disposal! If VT pays, or the club pays, how does that make the slightest difference? - DJ still spent it! With the squad we have last season we should have smashed it, but we didnt, and i blame DJ for that. I recon Malky will instill a bigger belief and better spirit in the team (hopefully with bellers as captain) and i think he will achieve great things.
Jimmy Scoular was an ex tough tackling scottish wing half who became City manager after doing a decent job with unfashionable Bradford Park Avenue back in 1964 when he joined us and galvanized a very good squad culminating in a near miss for promotion spending over 9 years here and i am sure supporters then were not too convinced so lets give Malkay Mackay another ex scottish tough tackling centre back a decent chance .
TGI Robin, its those fatal few words "Culminating in a near miss for promotion" that makes me worry. We don't want another Jimmy Scoular we just sacked one.
