Austin is class. Pace, unmatched strength, powerful shot all in one, however he's been overworked especially last season when he played 2 seasons back to back without break which ended in injury. Best midfielder of recent times. Mowatt is 18 year old and in his first pro season and yet he has still been worthy of a few man of the match awards. Murphy is also a young midfielder in his first season in the championship and yet still has impressed in matches. I defiantly don't agree with ditching our entire midfield which would be a massive overreaction to 5 points away from play offs. What we need is a few quallity signings....probably a partner for Ross (someone like Dexter Blackstock although not him obviously) and a quallity winger to compete with Kebe and Stewart (maybe Lewis Grabban). These ideas of needing to purge our squad and buy an entire new one are ridiculous and sound like the ramblings of a paranoid schizophrenic or a Sheffield Wednesday fan. Did Burnley or Derby do this? No they added a few quality signings such as Chris Martin and Jason Shackell.
I said I would keep Mowatt and Murphy Austin and headless chicken spring to mind, what use is a powerful shot when you don't know where the back of the net is, 4 goals in 45 games isn't much to shout about in that department and surely a midfielder should be able to pass and create more than he does.
Acid test for Murphy, Mowatt & Austin - if you got offered £3m for any of them, would you take it? Yes x3 for me!
Put it another way, imagine all three played for a rival team, how happy would you be if you heard we had a pot of lets say £12m to spend and you heard we were buying the three of them for £1.5m each would you think it was a good deal or could we get better. I wouldn't be happy based on what I have seen so far, I do hope Mowatt and Murphy will shine, Austin would have circles run around him all day long in the Premier league should we get promotion.
Good to reverse the perspective. I wouldn't sign any og them for £1.5m, based on what I've seen. But then, what do I know, Mowatt look absolutely average to me & I could probably run faster. Perhaps it's because he's young, but there's no doubt in my mind that he has trouble with pace & stamina.
I have been an Austin fan, yet the last two games he has looked/sounded awful on television (although my stream was terrible too) and radio commentary.
Austin offers nothing to the team, truly awful player. Passes continually go astray, gets caught in possession too much, shooting is diabolical. Luke Murphy by comparison is improving all the time, offers far more than Austin.
